Inspiring Conversations with Suzan Diaz of DFAM Grazers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzan Diaz.

Hi Suzan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a mom of 4, a wife, full time employee, student and proud owner and creator of DFAM Grazers. I started doing boards about three years ago as a hobby. I would do them for small get togethers or for a night in with the girls or with my husband to accompany a glass of wine. Then I started doing them for birthdays and any activity among friends. I was always told “you should start a business with these boards” but I never took it seriously since I still have school age children a fulltime job and pregnant at that time. When I was on maternity leave from work although I was still getting a paycheck, I explore the idea of converting something that I love to create into a business. First one I did seriously was for my own baby shower and everyone had something to say about this board. I sat down with my husband and spoke to him about opening a small business of charcuterie boards and like always his support was 100%. We made our logo, created our social media pages, and started growing our audience. From there, it was just about reaching more people in the area. We went to our first vendor event two weeks after starting, we gain quite a few followers and interested people. As of right now, most of our clients come from referrals but we have had a few that have found us through social media. We are blessed for all the support our family and friends have given us in this adventure.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is always ups and down to every small business. I tried to be as transparent as possible with anyone that reached out for information. This pandemic has affected many people financially, not everyone is in their best position. Another factor is the price and availability on goods sometimes we must visit multiple stores to find all that we need and could be hard at times, but we always aim to provide our clients with good quality products. Time could also be challenging, I am a mother of four children ages 13, 8, 7 and 8 months and I have a full-time job, but I tried to be available as much as possible for any client always taking in consideration my family and job.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
People should know that I do this because I love it is not only because of the extra income that it could bring. I really do enjoy creating boards and surprising my clients with unique presentations. We aim to please and honor any requests from out clients. Something you should know is that my business is not just charcuterie boards or also known as cheese boards they can also be fruit boards, sweet/candy boards and even a breakfast board. What set us apart is that we never do the same thing over and over we like to create unique and personalize boards, for example you want a specific cheese or meat, or you want to incorporate something from your decor or want me to use your own boards, etc. we try to please every client always using quality products. Something that everyone should be aware is that we love supporting our local business by using their products as much as we can. To current and future clients, our menu and price breakdown is just to give you an idea but if you are looking for specifics or have any questions about prices, the items on each board and want something in specific please do not hesitate to reach out to us we will be more than happy to assist you. We are here for them and to serve them. We deliver free if it is local within 15 miles a delivery fee is applied to final price depending on distance and if delivery day is a holiday.

What matters most to you?
What matters the most is to make sure our clients are satisfied with what they are paying for. Always aiming to please and make sure our clients are happy and that we have met or exceed their expectations. I take pride on what I do specially when it’s something I love doing, I hate to think that someone wasn’t happy with my service as I always aim for perfection.
