Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Frazier.
Hi Tamara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in Parramore began with what I like to call a “lottery win” — literally winning my home through the Parramore home lottery program. What started as an opportunity for housing quickly became the foundation for my purpose. In the same week that I graduated with my Master of Public Administration from UCF, I put down roots in Parramore — not just as a homeowner, but as a member of a community I wanted to help grow.
Originally from Miami, I brought my down-south roots to Orlando and found that Parramore carried a similar spirit — one of resilience, pride, and community. Over the years, I’ve stayed actively involved by serving on the Parramore Community Engagement Council and curating the Mind Your Mental Health Fair, which brings together nearly 200 community members and partners each year to celebrate wellness and connection.
When I’m not volunteering or curating community projects, you’ll often find me working right here in Parramore, supporting children and families by helping connect them to resources that promote equity and opportunity.
I live, serve, and play in Parramore. I’ve found joy in watching this neighborhood continue to evolve while holding on to its deep roots of culture, strength, and unity. Every opportunity Parramore has given me — from homeownership to belonging — has inspired me to give more in return. My goal is to continue helping shape spaces that uplift and unite community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for the community. Like many urban neighborhoods, Parramore has faced rapid change, and with that comes both progress and growing pains. One of the biggest challenges has been ensuring that the people who formed this community can still call it home. Rising housing costs and redevelopment have made it harder for families to find affordable places to live, and some long-time residents are being priced out by landlords or developers.
We’re also in a food desert, so access to fresh, healthy food continues to be a major barrier for some. While there are incredible community efforts happening every day, there’s still a need for stronger investment into the community.
With Parramore’s rich spirit and history, it’s just a matter of time.
