Today we’d like to introduce you to Tisse Mallon.
Hi Tisse, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m the founder/director of Elar Institute, a holistic lifestyle coach, and a TEDx speaker. You might be surprised to hear that, for many years, I struggled with aimlessness, depression, and bipolar disorder.
In 1995, I was starting high school and it was around this time I began to experience feelings of frustration, worry, and depression from seemingly nowhere. I would say my high school years appeared great – I had some casual friends, boyfriends, attended honors classes, was involved in many clubs, and got along with my teachers. At home, I had the privilege of two supportive parents and a younger sibling. All was technically well. However, there was a discomfort steadily growing within me.
Why did I feel on the verge of tears all the time? Why did I feel like a spectator of my own life? Shouldn’t I be experiencing the freedom, invincibility, and indulgence of youth? What was this all for anyway?
Throughout the next six years, I sought answers, turning to religion, therapy, medication, destructive behavior, and the like. None of those paths seemed to bring me the relief I sought nor answers to the many questions I had.
Then, something magical happened.
I was referred to someone who called themselves an insight coach. I worked intensively (three times per week for six months) on healing from childhood emotional wounds — feelings that I didn’t have the tools or support to process back then.
I realized that this sense of disconnection and numbness protected me from acknowledging the moments of fear, pain, worry, and anger as a small child. The same numbness that keeps us from actually getting to feel alive in the moment.
I believe most of us are experiencing the consequences of a missing gap in our educational system… A nurturing space that teaches us the essential functions of our brains, the important meaning of our feelings, as well as how to discover, create and evaluate our communication strategies to not only survive but truly thrive.
So, that’s what I have dedicated my life to building.
Through the Elar Institute, I am creating a safe space for people to do their inner work.
As you know, we’re big fans of Elar Institute. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Elar, we’re creating a community to help people to thrive! We help people cultivate peace and balance within themselves and all areas of life through workshops, classes, and coaching based on emotional intelligence, applied neuroscience, and mindfulness.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have the privilege to be engaged with my passion on a daily basis because of the great many people who have contributed to me. My family, teachers, coaches, and friends have cared for, listened to, and inspired me. My current Elar Institute team is incredible. Everything we’re building, we’re building together. Each person shares the overall vision and is bringing their own talents and skills to the table.
