Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Figueroa
Vivian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story of how New Heart CPR started was when I was unfortunately outed from my job as a CNA in a nursing facility because of me not wanting to get the covid vaccine. At the time, there was a proclamation given by the Biden administration that if you had wanted to work in a healthcare facility such as a hospital, rehab facilities, or nursing facilities, you were mandated to have the vaccine. My religious exemption wasn’t accepted by the company and unfortunately I was forced to leave. And so, in order to be able to have some kind of revenue during covid I decided to open my own business since I wouldn’t require myself to have this vaccination while other companies were requiring it upon being hired. All my life I have been interested in the medical field and since I absolutely love education and teaching others about different things I decided to marry both those concepts of education and the medical field and use that to open a CPR training school.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to opening and operating a CPR training school has not been easy. With the American Heart Association and their relationship with instructors, I cannot directly get certification cards to give to my students I would have to go through a middle-man so to speak called a Training Center. These training centers require you to have an alignment with them in order for you to deliver certification cards to your students. The issue I was having was that I was already an instructor but I was not aligned as of yet. I had to call many different training centers in order for me to get aligned with them but they wanted instructors that already took their own program instead of people that didn’t. So it was frustrating to even get started, although I had my license, I couldn’t instruct because of AHA’s weird rules. Finally, after so much searching and rejection, I found a training center in Georgia that let me align with them!
We’ve been impressed with New Heart CPR , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are American Heart Association operated and we specialize in CPR, AED, First Aid, and BLS certification classes. What sets us apart is fun, engaging, out of the box classes that our students remember for a long time. We also are one of few Woman and Latina owned CPR company! We are a Christian valued business that values life and the worth in saving everyone, no matter the color, faith, or gender.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It makes me happy to see my students finally grasp a skill and watch it click in their brains on how to do things after I’ve taught them. This job is so rewarding, there’s no words to describe it and if I tried, I would fail.
