Jessica Young shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I check the socials for the pages I manage, and update them as needed, (Shout out to Resplendency INC and POVFilms.) Then I clean out my email for the day before tackling my scheduled tasks for the day. Depending on the day, my afternoons, could be me running a virtual program for the Maryland State Bar editing a video for them. After clocking out of work I usually edit or do some project planning for Resplendency or POV Films, currently I am working on the upcoming virtual conference for Resplendency. After that I’ll catch a movie or go for a walk locally and take some pictures and videos for POV Films. It’s usually fun day filled with a variety of creativity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Creative specializing in Non-Profits media and marketing. I assist in project management, marketing plans, educational programming and event planning for the Maryland State Bar Association and Resplendency Inc. Additionally I freelance in Photography and Videography and Event planning with POV Films. I have assisted No Load Time Podcast, Headphones Thoughts Blog and Examine Moments Blog with video capture while attending conventions local and out of state. I also have had my photography featured in a couple local Orlando events.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Wow this is a tough question, I believed I had to chose one thing when it came to what I did for a career or one thing I did as a pastime for fun and now I no longer belive that. I also don’t feel I have to be good at everything. I find it fun to to try new things and express my creativity in various ways including budgeting, cooking, traveling, reading and more. I would tell my younger self you can be interested in as many things as you want and you do not have to be an expert on all of them.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Sadly this is an easy question but the fear of failure and not getting things right on the first try has definitely held me back. I am slowly working in improving this and I have seen Ive become less hard on myself when things don’t turn out the way I hope.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think like most people, I have a professional persona and a person persona, I think there are are definitely things I’m interested in that would surprise a lot of people and I think somethings I don’t like would surprise some people. I have found my ethic background to be the most surprising aspect of my life. Haha
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I think I would post less, try to be debt free asap, and once I was and maybe cut back on working and volunteer more. Since I would prefer to help people and be as present as possible. I know it sounds simple but I definitely think it would just realign my priorities.
