Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlene Laboy.
Hi Arlene, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved capturing moments; even back in high school, I always carried around a disposable camera with me everywhere I went. A few years ago, I started travel writing for Orlando Date Night Guide and would photograph places I was visiting to have images for my articles. I started to realize I enjoyed photographing more than I did the writing and started trying to learn everything I could about photography.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the last year has been the hardest when it comes to my photography, as I’ve been trying to navigate how to continue doing what I love while also being safe during this pandemic and keeping myself and my clients healthy. Some of the steps I’ve taken are I started scheduling sessions earlier in the morning to avoid crowds in the public spaces I shoot at, and I make sure to keep 6ft distance from my clients and my mask on at all times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lifestyle, brand and product photographer. I’ve had the privilege to work with a number of amazing local restaurants, creatives and business owners from Florida and beyond. My passion lies in capturing images for brands that are unique and I love to utilize both soft and harsh natural light to create interesting compositions. When it comes to photographing people, I gravitate more towards a candid/natural approach instead of poses.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Work hard, overdeliver and being kind and respectful to everyone are the most important in my book.
