Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Crisafulli.
Hi Brandy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My little sister was a victim of human-trafficking, at the time I knew very little about human trafficking, I was devastated. I thought this kind of thing only happened overseas, not in my own backyard! My husband and I were invited to a symposium hosted by Project Rescue, one of the largest sex-trafficking rescue organizations in the world and there and then I knew we had to do something to combat this terrible injustice. The one thing that stood out to us was that we needed training to be able to successfully rescue trafficking victims, we began this training immediately and learned how we needed to work with law enforcement, the judicial system and health professionals to be able to insure the well-being of the girls that would be coming to our rescue homes. I am now part of the human trafficking task force for Brevard County and work closely with many organizations that help us to meet this goal.
We transformed my family’s fruit packing business location into a beautiful upscale resale boutique that sustains our organization, Life Recaptured. The store is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds go to sustain our rescue homes and we will soon be opening a café that will also help us purchase other homes and maintain them. The Farm at Crisafulli Groves will also support our organization with our organic, U-pick farm that will feature our own Crisafulli Navel orange as well as many other fruits and vegetables and has had amazing support from our community in the form of volunteers and materials.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey has had some challenges, we learned to be careful with whom we collaborated and how we work with other organizations, there has to be great trust and a non-competitive spirit for things to work as they should. We now have a wonderful core group and a network of people and organizations that help us in every facet of the process of taking our ladies from victims to victors.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a business owner and entrepreneur my whole life and have worked with women who faced domestic abuse for over twenty years. I am well-known as an event planner, decorator and counselor.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a young lady I was very shy and had to overcome my reluctance to speak before crowds and now am so excited to share the vision of Life Recaptured and let the world know how we are working to fight human sex-trafficking.
