Life & Work with Cerissa Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cerissa Jordan.

Hi Cerissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start as a nail technician in Cleveland, OH, more than 20 years ago. After graduating from college and working in corporate America for over a decade and a long break from nails, I relocated to Orlando, FL and decided to go back to what I was passionate about – nails. Things started slowly, but I eventually got comfortable and started to gain loyal clients. I created Orlando Nail Tech in 2019 and have been growing the brand ever since. I worked in several nail salons in the Orlando area and eventually felt confident enough to step out on my own. Now, I own a salon suite for in-person services as well as an e-commerce business on orlandonailshop.com. A career change can be a scary thing, but this one was totally worth it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My time in Orlando has been anything but smooth! There is a huge learning curve when you are in a new, unfamiliar city and I dealt with a lot of personal failures along the way. From being homeless at one point to being told I would never make it as a nail tech, I have had plenty of ups and downs. No matter what came my way, I promised myself I’d never give up, even if I felt defeated in the moment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist and nails are my primary canvas. I have become known on social media and in-person as someone willing to try new things and push design boundaries. My art goes beyond nails and I have created commissioned wall art and transformed everyday items like apparel and shoes into one-of-a-kind art. I take the Orlando Nail Tech brand seriously and want everyone to feel amazing. Although I have worked with well-known people, I consider all of my client’s celebrities and they get the royal treatment.

How do you define success?
I define success as being unapologetically yourself. Society puts us in a box and tells us that we shouldn’t strive for our goals because of age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status but it’s up to us to break out of this box and be our best selves.
