Life & Work with Jennyferth Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennyferth Diaz.

Hi Jennyferth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m from Colombia but I have been living here for the last five years. I used to be a preschool teacher in my country but when I came here the first two years I felt lost, everything was new for me, the language, the people; I took this like an opportunity to start over and redefine my life objectives, I wanted to pursuit something that would make me really happy. At the same time, I felt like I was in a self-love crisis and the need to fight that feeling gave me a light and a path. I started by building my confidence and one day, I found my voice and I decided that my goal would be encouraging other people to find the beauty in their own way throughout the hair, I started using my social media as a platform to share my own results using different products, natural and commercial. At first, I was afraid nobody will be interested in what I had to say, but slowly people would find similarities and the community started to grow. What started as a hobby became something serious and I decided to go back to school, this time not to be a teacher but to become a cosmetologist being able not only to create content but also to create actual physical changes in people. Now I love to combine my passion to teach with my love to empower women. I teach curly girls around the world how to take proper care of their curls and provide hands on services for ladies in my area.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been like a roller coaster, the language has been my first big challenge, trying to adapt my hearing to another language sometimes was exhausting but at the end of the day, I value all the lessons. I’m the first immigrant from my family and being so far away has not been easy, however they continue to be my support and motivation to keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a cosmetologist specializing in natural hair (wavy, curly, Afro) I offer a service where my main goal it’s encouraging my customer to rock their natural hair, make them feel elegant, valuable and radiant and the most important thing confident. I like to go beyond in my service so not only you feel good with your image for a couple of days after I am done, but you learn how to embrace your image and learn how to take care of your hair on your own too.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
After this crisis, I learned the value of the mental health, also the importance of being able to adapt ourselves to the situations, specially when they are not part of our plans. And without any doubt, I value the power of social media to keep us informed connected and close to our loved ones. When all of this passes, we have to keep the priorities, our families our health and just be grateful for everything we take for granted.
