Today we’d like to introduce you to Keena Lampkins.
Hi Keena, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Did I ever tell you how I got started? It’s interesting, for sure… After 20-plus years of being in the health and wellness field, I opened a studio for women. By God’s grace, it’s been a fantastic journey thus far. I picked up a basketball for the first time at age 12. All of my friends were playing. I slowly became intrigued with the idea of girls playing sports.
One year later, I found myself on the junior varsity basketball team. I enjoyed every minute of it. The practices, games, structure, and most of all, the health and fitness emphasis. I went on to earn a scholarship to a school in south Florida to play basketball. I got injured while playing and ended up in physical therapy for about eight months. It was these experiences that led me to decide on a major in sports medicine. I got hired at a physical therapy chain in Jax right before my college graduation. I hadn’t even walked or received my diploma. To this day, I’m convinced that one of my professors “put in a call” for me, lol. I enjoyed my job and wasn’t looking to change. But then something unexpected happened… One day a friend asked me if I could help a lady that was house-ridden. She was like: “Don’t you teach exercise or something for a living?” I was like: “Yes.” And we went on from there. Because of my work schedule, I didn’t see how I could help this woman recover from her physical limitations.
At the time, I was on a late shift and was part of a few task teams for the company, so in my opinion, I was already at my max. But then I remembered watching this show on television, where the speaker mentioned that doing kind deeds for others could lead to blessings for all. So I agreed to help the woman… Looking back, the women I helped was actually my first client. I was nervous, but I felt compelled to help her. With basic exercises, we quickly saw great improvements. She went from being house-ridden to getting her own groceries in less than four months! She made great progress, and on the heels of her success, I piqued the interest of several other women that needed my help to regain their overall health and fitness. After a while, I had a steady stream of clients that I began to train out of my car. I would go to their houses before or after work and help them with whatever their health and fitness goals were. In my mind, I still didn’t recognize what I was doing as a business per se. I was still thinking that I was just helping people and being kind. Then it hit me… Hmmm, could I really do this as a business? Yes!!! I think I can… I believe I can… I will!!!
I got out my pen and pad to come up with a name for my new vision. Four – Small group personal training Friends – Build camaraderie and community among women Fitness – Help women reach the condition of being physically fit and healthy Boom. I was off and running. Check out the rest of the series this week to find out more. And maybe even get to know me a little better… Hi, Keena! Personal training in groups of up to 4 that’s different. I set out to make small group training different. I wanted the ratio between trainers and clients smaller than the typical fitness class 4 max. I wanted women to have access to high-quality training, which would increase their chances of losing weight and gaining strength. I was happy with the physical results that my clients were getting, but… I found that over time what meant most to me were the hidden benefits of seeing the women gain confidence, meet new friends, and feel empowered. I realized that I was offering a real experience to women that wanted real change. And that there was a positive community of women being built.
As women trained at Four Friends Fitness, they became healthier and more fit versions of themselves with every session. The sense of gratification I received from seeing customers thrive was priceless. Yes, the road to your dream level of health and fitness may seem impossible for you to achieve right now. But you can do it with the help of a trainer and a community of women at Four Friends Fitness who are also on their grind towards success. The Four Friends Fitness special sauce has been beneficial to my clients over the past two years. Some of them have made dramatic changes and are totally independent in their healthier lifestyles. You too have unlocked potential… Schedule your free consultation today. Let’s together and talk! Support and success are waiting just at your fingertips. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Covid has been the biggest obstacle to date. Caused me to branch out into virtual services. I ended up being positive as now I can service more customers nationwide.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a personal trainer and health coach. I specialize in personal training for people who are just starting in fitness or have been sedentary for a while and are starting up again.
What are your plans for the future?
I would like to franchise my studios to solopreneurs/fitness trainers.
