Today we’d like to introduce you to AC Collins.
Hi AC, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
An orthopedic doctor in New Jersey told me I had arthritis in my knees, and if I wanted to walk at the age of 50, I needed to stop training lower body as much and as heavy as I was. And that’s when my own personal fitness journey began. I refused to settle for not doing the one thing that kept me sane… lifting weights. So, I went to physical therapy and started learning my body, and how it moves, how to carry my own weight properly, utilizing my core, etc. I moved back to Orlando in 2016 and continued my journey to better health. I’d been approached a number of times why training from people wanting to train with me. I dismissed the signs initially but finally gave in to the idea. I took on my first client in 2017 and started studying to become a personal trainer and nutritionist. There’s no fitness journey without creating better nutritional habits. Women wanted me to train them at their homes because of fear of the gym, not knowing what to do, and feeling like they’re being watched, so I create an environment in my home where women could come and be themselves, completely free of judgment. And that’s when Body by AC was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life worth having comes without struggle. My biggest challenge was finding and retaining clients. I needed to find a way to attract new clients, and once I had them, keep them for a longer period of time. I hired my friend as my social media manager and things quickly turned around. Because my gym is in my home, I didn’t have to find a building to host my clients, which took much of the hassle out of this process.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a personal trainer and nutritionist, I’m also a project manager for an Hr outsourcing company. I do onboard and implementation of new clients in Human Resources, benefits, pension, and retirement. While I love my career, personal training is my passion. I’ve been fortunate to work from home and be able to run my business while working on projects for work.
My personality and work ethic make me who I am. I work hard and study harder. It’s important to me to see others see their own potential. The expressions on women’s faces when they start to see results is unmatched.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is defined by the amount of women and men I’ve helped to see themselves in a more positive way. Yes, money plays a huge role in both, but being a part of someone’s journey to better health is priceless.
