Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessa Dufresne.
Hi Alessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was working at a talent agency when I realized I was losing my creative side, having gone to school for theater, it was something that was always in me. I loved Disney a lot when I was in Canada, especially the history and Imagineering aspects of it so I decided to make a YouTube channel to create research-based videos to fulfill my creative side and love for Disney. I then created a Disney Instagram account and now have a TikTok! I have since expanded in theme park fashion and beauty as well, as I moved to Orlando!
I moved here with my fiancée and am now super inspired by all things theme park, from the way that the floor at Disney’s Animal Kingdom tells the story of the land you’re in, to the dress I can wear that compliments my surroundings perfectly!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being from Canada, it is never easy to move to another country. Not that you have to live in Orlando to do what I do, but for me, it did make sense. I had to navigate getting a green card and being in a new place with my then-fiancée as my only person! I have also had to deal with people being rude online, which is never a fun journey for anyone. Luckily, my accounts have always been based on the love of what I do, and I never put pressure on any goals that I had to hit.
I am now moving to a full-time role with content creation, so I am sure challenges will continue to arise!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think the thing that separates me from others is that I am a mix of fashion/beauty/and research. Many accounts or people tend to focus on educating in terms of research, or, fashion and beauty. Many people pick a niche. I decided that I wanted multiple niches in the Disney / theme park space with my account, and will continue to post a fury of content that dabbles in all of it, with a twist of lifestyle! I would say that I specialize in theme park outfits, specifically Disney Bounds, and Disney history! I am proud of all the content I create, as I often put a lot of times and effort to ensure that the quality is high. I just want to be my full transparent self online.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would say, that if you are interested in social media, creating an account and making friends online is key. I was able to expand my network by being friendly and meeting others online. After that, asking for advice becomes natural. I followed bigger accounts to see what content their viewers would engage with, and then thought what can I do, that is unique to me, that will provide similar engagement. I still have a long way to go, but I am constantly trying new things to see what my audience likes!
I think surrounding yourself with positive accounts is the best form of mentorship, and really exploring all the areas of social media, if that’s your space.
