Life & Work with Allison Cates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Cates.

Hi Allison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started taking pictures ten years ago when my youngest was born. Gradually friends and family wanted pictures and my business began to grow. In 2018, I opened a small studio on a historic square in Covington, Tennessee. I met lots of families that lead me to new friends. Then this year we decided to take the opportunity to move to Florida with my husband’s job. Now we are loving the beach life while working on building local clients here!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am a natural light photographer, so it has been challenging at times to find a studio or location with the best light. Now I get to enjoy golden hour at the beach!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in beach family photography and in home lifestyle newborn sessions. I love to capture the unposed moments and tiny details that parents will want to look back on and remember. People come to me who are looking for a light and airy style. I have five little ones myself so I know to come with a bag of goodies to keep everyone happy and entertained during the session!

What does success mean to you?
A feeling of happiness at the end of the day.
