Life & Work with Alyssa Bourmeche

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Bourmeche.

Hi Alyssa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Tunisia but raised in NYC by my Cuban side of the family, and raised with strong ties to my culture. My journey really started when I began to travel and learn about the world and how different cultures interact with our Earth. I began to realize the impact we have on this earth and how to live a more sustainable life. It wasn’t until when I had my own kids that I felt that sense of urgency. I started sharing this journey through social media and have connected with like minded people and companies that share the same values as me to protect planet earth.

One big factor to me was the convenience and accessibility of living more sustainably. In sharing my journey I have made it a point to show the small steps that can be taken today to protect our tomorrow. It’s important to me to highlight it’s about progress not perfection. This motivated me to open Oh Eco, a sustainable store and resource for our community to grow together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth having comes easy! It has been very hard but absolutely worth it. My husband and I moved to Orlando with our two small children. We don’t have a village or support system physically here, so balancing work and parenthood is always a challenge. We are also the first in our family not only to move away, but to work on our own business. We are learning together on the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Before launching our store, Oh Eco, I started in the digital space creating content and marketing online. I started on Instagram and my Blog where I shared my journey through motherhood, sustainability, and our beautiful world! I’m probably most known for being a sustainable-ish mom, as I often share how imperfect I am at living eco-friendly but I try my hardest! Now with the launch of Oh Eco in Orlando, more specifically Ivanhoe Village, we are bringing sustainability to our community and sharing our love for this earth!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do believe in luck but I believe it comes to you through the good (or bad) you put out in the world. I just try to always be a good human, do good things and hope for the best. I think if I am lucky in something that’s just the good energy returning back to me.
