Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Neal.
Hi Angel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Born in raised in Florida, Tampa Bay Area. I was born with a creativity gene. Fashion and journalism has always been a big part of my life. After graduating from FAMU I took my talents to NYC in made a name for myself. After earning my Master’s Degree from LIM College, I launched my own fashion, beauty, and pop culture lifestyle print and digital magazine: Disrupshion. I started off writing for fashion and music publications, then I invested in my celebrity wardrobe styling career. Today I have the best of both worlds. With my publication, Disrupshion I get to put both of my passions in the forefront. I saw a void that needed to be filled. I use my platform to inspire the world. I recently launched Disrupshion Amour Studios in South Tampa, a rental photography studio space for creatives to have a safe space to be creative. I hope to expand to the Orlando area in the near future.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If it’s easy, is it even worth it? I’ve become accustomed to being prepared for challenges that come my way. In the fashion wardrobe styling and fashion journalism industry competition is steep. Because Florida somewhat lacks a powerful fashion ecosystem, I have to travel a lot to grow my business. Most of my business struggles come from financial aspects. I’m great at what I do. I’d just wish the money was more consistent as well as maybe if I had a financial investor or bigger support systems with bigger wallets.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Angel The Stylist, Angel The Mentor, Angel The journalist. I do it all. I’m known to many as Angel The Stylist more than anything being that people know me best for my celebrity wardrobe styling portfolio. By day I’m the founder and creative director of Disrupshion Magazine, which is headquartered at our in-house photo studio, Disrupshion Amour Studios. Everyday my work is different, I travel often for photoshoots and fashion events. I capture memories for print and I change lives by making people feel beautiful about themselves inside and out. People always ask what sets me apart from others. Honestly it maybe cliche but nobody is me and that’s my power. The way I think, the way I create, the way I make things happen, it’s all me. I don’t believe in the word, No. No just means not right now! I’m my own hype girl so anything I put my mind to I put in the work to make it happen. I don’t talk about it, in the words of Beyoncé I’m about that action. So, I guess that’s what makes me unique many would say. But we all have the same 24hrs in the day just like Beyoncé. So, in my eyes I’m gonna be Beyoncé, always lol.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Actually, I follow a lot of inspirational Instagram accounts that list daily quotes and affirmations. I’m really big on manifestation and writing down your goals and speaking them out loud. Off the top of my head there’s no specific sites that help me navigate my work-life balance. I guess faith, love, hard work and support goes a long way for me. The Kanye documentary was the last thing I saw that really inspired me to just speak life into myself even when others may not see my vision.
