Hi April, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our Vision:
We are a counter-cultural dance studio shining light in the Tampa Bay Area through movement that embraces everyone. We teach our students the fundamentals of dance as well as the the importance of life skills.
Our Mission:
‘Ignite your light through dance!’ With that, we offer performance level and competition level classes at our studio.
Our Values:
Confidence, resilience, courage, and teamwork are at the heart of each of our classes as we truly believe in shaping a well-rounded dancer.
Our Story:
Dancing for Joy was founded in 2010 by Mrs. April Joy and her daughter, Kate. DFJ started classes at Tampa Bay Heat and then expanded to Winthrop Plaza in 2018. In March 2020 it was clear, DFJ outgrew that space so we came to our new home where we currently host classes. DFJ started with 30 students and now has over 300 enrolled students. We have officially expanded into a 2nd location behind Flow Fitness Boutique and we are praying to expanding with your help to one big location in Riverview areas within the year this Fall!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dancing For Joy has encountered several challenges and obstacles over the years from staffing issues to finding a way to provide excellent dance instruction via Zoom during the COVID lockdowns. Dancing For Joy has made it through all of these hard times and has grown when other businesses were not as lucky. We have been very blessed and continue to spread Joy throughout our area!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Dancing for Joy is a dance studio set apart, as we have dedicated teachers that love their students unconditionally. We provide our dancers with an environment that encourages students to ‘shine their light’ inside and outside the studio! We genuinely strive to help children become the best dancers that they were created to be and the best version of themselves that they were destined to be.
We specialize in teaching dance to dancers from 1 and older, and teach everything from recreational to competitive dance classes. Our competitive dance team, called Joy Company, is an award winning team that most recently won the Most Admired Studio award at the Elevation Dance Competition – this award is indicative of the moral character of our staff and dancers and we are so proud of this achievement!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We travel to Orlando often for all of the amazing dance competitions, conventions, and family friendly events! The hardest part of traveling to Orlando is the traffic issues which causes a lot of stress for our families.
