Hi Barley’s, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The alarming rise of dialysis centres and fast food ventures around marginalized communities such as the African- American and Hispanic communities brought curiosity into what triggered this change. We then continued to compare the types of vendors and goods available in this neighbourhoods and other neighbourhoods in the area. This disparity is very saddening. We aim to uplift our brothers and sisters by educating them on how to use food and movement as a tool to prevent and cure lifestyle diseases.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not been smooth at all. Some of the challenges has been finding people willing to share their experience on how consistently consuming low nutritive food has led to some of the more prevalent diseases. This is mostly because they feel ashamed of this particular condition or they are angry that this is their current predicament.
Also, finding licensed and or certified people to volunteer time to give information that relates and is at par with our goal has been challenging. Some charge a fee while others struggle with making time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Having acquired a BA in Culinary and Hospitality management, I mainly focus in the hospitality industry, including restaurants and wineries mainly focusing on ensuring customer service is consistent and pleasant.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very passionate about using my hands to create things. From cooking to working on handy projects, this was always an interest of mine. I mostly assumed leadership positions amongst social circles.
