Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Rietze
Hi Becky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I initially believed my career path would lead me to teaching elementary school, a goal I pursued for four years in college. However, one day I woke up and realized that teaching wasn’t what I wanted anymore, so I decided to switch my major to Recreation and Facility Management. During my coursework, I discovered a genuine passion for the field and was excited to launch my career.
I spent several years planning events and managing trade shows, and I loved every moment of that work. When I moved back home, I fell in love and started a family, which prompted me to seek a stable 9-to-5 job. Despite this, I continued to engage with social media groups and began organizing my own events on the side.
After having my kids, I started planning events for moms, and they were incredibly well-received. It became clear to me that bringing people together and planning events were not just hobbies, but genuine passions I wanted to pursue further.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It can be quite challenging at times, especially when you’re charging friends for events. They often express how much they enjoy the experiences you create, praising your efforts, yet there’s a tension because they seem upset that you’re making a bit of money while they’re willing to pay other companies, like Groupon and Meetup, for similar events.
Balancing my 9-to-5 job with my responsibilities as a parent adds another layer of difficulty. It sometimes feels overwhelming trying to manage everything. I’ve been wanting to start my own company for a while now, but fear of failure has held me back. I have a clear vision and plenty of ideas, but the fear of taking the leap and following through has kept me from starting earlier. I now realize that instead of competing with others, I should focus on collaboration and building connections in the community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business focuses on event planning, and I have a strong desire to collaborate more with other event planning companies, particularly in organizing weddings and community events. One of my proudest achievements has been the relationships I’ve built within the community and the partnerships I’m actively working to establish.
I take great pride in the successful events I’ve already organized, and I’m excited about the future events I have in the pipeline. Connecting with people and contributing to the community through events is truly fulfilling for me, and I look forward to continuing this journey!
It can be challenging to spotlight what makes me unique compared to others, but I would attribute it to my personality and strong customer service skills—something I can thank Disney for! I genuinely believe in treating everyone with respect and kindness, regardless of their status. While I recognize that everyone is important, I think it’s essential to treat all customers as if they are VIPs. After all, everyone is investing in the experience, and they all deserve to be treated with the utmost care and attention.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I spent most of my free time engaging in sports, arts and crafts, and enjoying the outdoors—whether it was playing kickball (I know the newer generation might not be familiar with that!), playing catch, or roller skating. Without the technology we have today, I spent countless hours outside, soaking up the sun and having fun. I’ve always had a bubbly and energetic personality, and I’ve never considered myself shy. Those experiences shaped who I am today, fostering my love for connection and creativity in everything I do!
