Life & Work with Bobby Belanger of Ivanhoe Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Belanger

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From Kitchens to Blooms: A Florist’s Journey to The Golden Bee Fleurs
Some careers are planned, while others bloom unexpectedly—just like the flowers that now define my life.

For years, my hands were always creating. Whether styling hair or working in kitchens, I was drawn to everyday, functional art. But never did I imagine that floristry would become my true calling. That all changed after my grandmother passed away.

At the time, I was facing my own challenges. I had just lost my job after missing three days of work while grieving. Then, on what felt like one of my lowest days, flowers arrived at my door—a gesture from my partner to lift my spirits. But it wasn’t just the bouquet that changed my life. It was the woman who delivered them.

She was the owner of a flower shop, and as she handed me the arrangement, she asked if if i was ok , as i had been crying. She then asked me if I had any artistic ability. I pointed to the artwork hanging on my walls—pieces I had painted myself. She looked at them, nodded, and then asked a question I never expected: Have you ever thought about being a florist?

I hadn’t. But in that moment, something clicked.

Without hesitation, she offered me a job on the spot. Over the next couple of years, she became my mentor, teaching me the ins and outs of the floral industry. I learned not just how to arrange flowers but how to create emotion through design—how a single bouquet could tell a story, celebrate love, offer comfort or a whole field of emotions

More than twenty years have passed since that day. I worked for a few different floral shops, refining my craft and falling more in love with the art of floristry. Eventually, I felt the pull to build something of my own—a place where flowers, artistry, and emotion could intertwine in a way that felt deeply personal.

That dream became The Golden Bee Fleurs.

With years of dedication, hard work, and the trust of the clients I adore, I was finally able to open my own doors. Every arrangement I create is a testament to my journey, a reflection of the passion that started on that fateful day when a simple bouquet changed my life.

Today, The Golden Bee Fleurs is more than just a flower shop. It’s a storybook setting where beauty, community, and creativity come together—one bloom at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Beyond the Blooms: Lessons from a Life in Floristry
Of course, no journey is without its challenges. But rather than obstacles, I see them as lessons—each one shaping me into the florist and business owner I am today.

Like many in creative industries, I’ve experienced my share of frustrations. There were times when others took credit for my work, when long hours and low pay felt like the price of passion, and when shop owners left me to figure things out on my own. But instead of discouraging me, these moments strengthened my resolve. They forced me to learn not just the art of floristry but the business behind it—the logistics, the management, the numbers, and the countless details that make a shop thrive.

Because being a florist isn’t just about arranging flowers. It’s about storytelling, strategy, and service. It’s about creating experiences, curating moments that linger long after the petals have faded. From designing the perfect bouquet to crafting engaging social media content, from sourcing the finest blooms to building a space where guests feel enchanted—every part of this business is an extension of my passion.

So no, I wouldn’t call it a struggle. I’d call it a journey of growth. Every challenge has led me here, to The Golden Bee Fleurs, where art, nature, and connection come together in a way I once never imagined.

And the best part? The story is still unfolding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to understanding the heart behind each floral request. We don’t just ask what you want—we listen to why you want it. By diving into the backstory of every occasion, we translate emotions into floral art that speaks volumes. Whether it’s joy, love, remembrance, or celebration, we ensure that every petal reflects the sentiment you wish to express.

Our passion lies in creating one-of-a-kind designs that go beyond beauty—they hold meaning, evoke feelings, and leave a lasting impression. At The Golden Bee Fleurs, every bloom tells a story.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I love most about Orlando and Winter Park is their ever-changing nature. These cities are constantly evolving, always introducing something new while maintaining the charm that makes them special. The diversity here is incredible—every neighborhood, every street, every person brings something unique to the fabric of the community. It’s a place where creativity flourishes, and that energy fuels my work at The Golden Bee Fleurs.

Of course, no place is perfect. While I adore the storybook feel of Winter Park’s brick roads, I have to admit they can be a challenge when it comes to flower deliveries. Every bump is a reminder that beauty sometimes comes with a little bit of inconvenience! But that’s part of the charm—just like flowers, cities have their quirks, and it’s those details that make them truly special.
