Hi Carine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Each morning I would struggle (like a real struggle) to zip up the back of my dress when getting ready for work. I thought women could do anything, so why can’t we zip up the back of our dress?! I knew many women had this problem, and I couldn’t find a solution, so I set out to create one myself, and that’s how The Best Friend was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a wild ride, and I’ve learned that success isn’t linear, but with that said, women love this product, and the response from the market has been incredible. We’ve been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, and in major publications like People, Real Simple, and Travel & Leisure, and we’re just getting started. Our next goal is to partner with premium retailers and home shopping networks and bring The Best Friend to women everywhere.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I got my start in media and advertising, working for some of the world’s biggest brands like People, InStyle and Glamour. It was actually at Real Simple where The Best Friend was born as the brand is very problem/solution based, and it sparked the creativity to create the product after getting frustrated with my daily battle to zip up. I’m proud of myself for taking a problem that has existed since dawn and having the confidence to take the leap and go for it.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so shoot your shot. You must be passionate about your business, share your story, and work harder than everyone else to succeed. You have to be fearless and relentless. Last week I was at a charity event being hosted by a prominent fashion brand, and I introduced myself to the Creative Director, and he fell in love with The Best Friend and got it right away.
