Life and Work with Chavi Dubinsky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chavi Dubinsky.

Hi Chavi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’d be glad to! Ever since I was a young child, I loved the idea of finding something beautiful and capturing it in a way that it is preserved forever. I always cherished looking back at the photos of family events and of the people I love. Then, about ten years ago, someone who noticed my affinity for photography gifted me a real camera. That’s when everything changed for me. I went from liking photography to being hooked! Now, years later, it is still something that I find so much creativity and joy in. I feel truly blessed that I have the opportunity to capture timeless moments that will be cherished for years to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the days of the iPhone, where everyone thinks they are a photographer, it can seem like photography is simple. The truth is that is an art that must be honed through lots of trial and error. It took years of practice to get to where I am today, and I will always keep growing and improving my art.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Besides my photography career, I am a Rebbetzin- a woman married to a Rabbi. That means that my husband and I serve as the spiritual leaders for our community. My husband and I work together to ensure that every person in the community is taken care of- spiritually and physically. It brings me tremendous joy to be on the giving end. To me, there is nothing better than a life where you are contributing to others!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My best recommendation would be to stick at it. There are times when photography (or any skill) can be frustrating, and you might be tempted to give up. My advice is don’t! Keep practicing, and you’ll get there eventually. Another tip is to use the resources that you already have access to, like YouTube, which has great tutorials.
