Life & Work with Cindy Meadows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Meadows.

Hi Cindy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had a passion for art, sculpture, theatre, and photography from early childhood. After spending 30 years in Urban Planning, and 8 years in local politics, I began my second career as an artist. Today I focus on painting abstracts in acrylic and mixed media on various materials.

As a woman-owned small business known as StudioQ202 located in my in-home studio, I paint bright, colorful, and lyrical paintings. My goal is to create work that brings joy and beauty to the viewer. I am inspired by nature, places I love, and gardens. My work can be seen online, and occasionally in galleries, retail establishments, offices, and local markets.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During CoVID, online e-commerce sites became the go-to method for selling art. Galleries, shops, and in-person art opportunities were closed. Now that these have opened up, there are plenty of opportunities for both online and in-person art showings.

The biggest challenge today is there are so many talented, fabulous artists in the world online that it is difficult to attract attention to my art. The competition is very strong. Art is a personal product. One must market, market, market, and this takes time away from creating art.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My paintings are primarily abstract expressionism created with acrylic, oil pastels, and charcoal on various materials. I love to be inspired by nature and all things outdoors. I may see a painting in my mind’s eye when I am outside.

Sometimes I will dream about the painting and work on it in my dreams. The next day I sit down in my studio and think about what I dreamt. Sometimes the painting comes together and sometimes it doesn’t. That’s the mystery and fun of creating abstract art. I don’t want to copy exact replicas of what I see. I want to let my mind, eyes, and hands flow in an unknowing way. Then voila!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Online, gallery, and now NF’s art creation and sales are prolific and exploding worldwide. It’s an exciting industry to follow, get involved in, and love. The industry is full of extremely creative people who are looking for collectors.

Art can become valuable so is an investment to many. I expect this to continue and multiply exponentially.
