Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Vandiver.
Hi Claire, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Nashville and grew up around parents who were both involved in music. I knew from an early age I wanted to do music professionally. It was my passion and I never gave up on my dreams. I started gigging in high school on the weekends at any local restaurant/ bar I could and haven’t stopped since.
While most of the world was solemn in lockdown during the pandemic, I spent the past year co-producing and recording my latest batch of songs with NYC-based composer/sound designer, Keller McDivitt. Wall-of-sound guitars, hard-hitting bass, spacey synthesizers, and thunderous drums provide the backdrop for the latest EP, “… Even When it Hurts.”
The songs are about passionate relationships, mental health and co-dependency, and all the spontaneity and complexities of an ephemeral youth. I’m performing regularly as an acoustic duo with my father, guitarist Chip Vandiver, and soon, with a full backing band as I prepare to hit the road in support of the new and upcoming music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Lots of letdowns. “Where is the spirit of music”?
I always ask myself this whenever I forget Sometimes I get so caught up in planning/money/prepping/deadlines/eating healthy/diets/ working out/ booking gigs/ writing I forget why I’m even doing this. Manic phases of being on top of the world followed by letdowns and lows.
All I ever wanted to do was music and I’ve gotten some amazing opportunities and support from people over the years that I can’t thank enough. I’ve met tons of lovely people and connected with great souls. It’s really hard and it’s really draining at times but also super rewarding and worth it!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer/ songwriter and currently have released a new EP “ Even When It Hurts”. It’s definitely a new sound for me and I’m super excited to share it with everyone.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Never stop. Keep going. Listen to your instincts and never stop believing in yourself even on the hard days.
