Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Marquez.
Hi Daniel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in 2010 when I got called by friend of mine who asked me to play bass in a Green Day cover band.
The guys at the band asked me if I could bring a drummer with me. That was the moment I texted Jose Antonio so he could play with us. I knew he played drums because he used to upload drum covers of metal band of that era, what I didn’t know was if he was going to play with a bunch of punk kids at teenagers parties. He said yes.
In 2013 was when I switched from bass to guitar and singing.
Throughout the 2010’s both of us played and recorded covers together until one day Jose decide to leave Venezuela. I remember the last song we played together in Venezuela was That What You Get – Paramore.
After 2016 when he left, I started to write my own demos. It helped me develop my ear and songwriting skills.
In 2018 I left venezuela to travel the world. I forgot my passion for music for a few years, until the pandemic came and I had time to study music theory on my own again.
After the pandemic, I got to New York and lived there for 3 years until at the end of my time there I had an epiphany. Out of nowhere it became my mission to start a band a release my own music.
On the other hand Jose started his audio engineering courses around the same time. If you want to read about his viewpoint of our story, you may read his interview with voyager using this link:
It was in december 2023. I was living in Miami. when out of the blue during a sunset in Biscayne Bay, I got a call from Jose Antonio. Knowing that he hates phone calls I figured that the reason for the call was important. He asked me if I had a few demos. I told him that I did. He also told me that he was studying music production and he needed musicians to help him finish his lab assigments at school. Even though I couldn’t move to Orlando to help him with his assigments. I moved to Orlando in september 2024.
In early 2025 we started to build Shy Studios with our own resources and equipment, by mid 2025 we started the Pintura & Música sessions and by september 5th we released our first single as our own project
Hidila.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t. It took us years to master our instruments and equipment. We also had to finance the studio on our own and also we had to develop enough taste to write music that we and the audience like.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I can sing, play guitar, bass and piano.
I’m knowing for a funk psychodelic rock style in my playing.
My songs are the thing that I’m the most proud of.
The fact that us, as a band in general can play, record, mix, master and market a record on our own, even though we’re only 2 guys doing everything.
Jose Antonio doing drums, recording, mixing and mastering
And I, the singing, guitar, bass and piano
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like the most in Orlando are the theme parks. They bring back a lot of happy childhood memories.
What I like least about it are the jams at I-4
