Life & Work with David Ferguson of Altamonte Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Ferguson

Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our church was started in the Pine Hills Boys and Girls Club in 1999 with no membership. We stayed in the club for seven years before moving to the Rosemonte area. Three years later we moved to West Kennedy Blvd. It was at the Kennedy Blvd location where we really started to find our identify, brand our Church, expand and develop our ministries with an emphasis on Outreach.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been as rough as it could have been, but smooth may be overstating it a bit. Our greatest struggle has been member retention, ministry recognition and searching for a permanent location. We were able to overcome some smaller struggles with the exception of a permanent location.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my secular career I was an IT Manager for a major entertainment company. I managed a team of 39 employees and our specialty was QA and Testing. I’m most proud of our ability to leverage technology to do effective online ministry. We were able to survive Covid 19 largely with the help of technology because migrating to a virtual church service was easily achieved with the flip of a switch because we had already proactively built the virtual infrastructure prior to the event of covid. From a ministry perspective, I’m most proud of our ability to create a warm and very welcoming atmosphere within our church. I think that our ability to not allow our size to hinder our ministry output. In essence, we’re a small church with a large church mentality and approach to ministry.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Being a part of a connectional church denomination has worked well for us. As it relates to mentoring, I believe that it is important to find a mentor who shares a similar vision for ministry and the church and has a proven strong relationship with God. What has worked well for me has been my approachability. I try to have a personal relationship with each member of the congregation and let them know that they can contact me directly with any questions, suggestions or concerns.
