Hi Derek, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in music began at a young age, influenced by my family’s love for music! My father played lead guitar in a classic rock cover band and is a die-hard music fan. He introduced me to many of my musical influences as a child, taking the family on adventures across the US to see concerts and experience live music. I initially gravitated towards drums before picking the guitar and diving into songwriting. Over the last 20 years, I’ve honed my performance skills and found my voice as a musician. One significant turning point was meeting my wife, who shared my passion for music. Together, we embarked on a journey to Nashville, the heart of the music industry. Despite facing challenges like balancing a corporate job and pursuing music, I ultimately decided to prioritize my true passion and returned to music full-time in November of 2022. Since then, as a father of 2 beautiful kiddos, I’ve been on a mission to teach them that they can make their wildest dreams come true as long as they have passion, dedication, and work hard. I love creating authentic and uplifting music, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, challenges, and moments of joy. Each album reflects a chapter of my life, serving as a form of therapy and a way to connect with others. Today, I’m grateful to have built a supportive community of friends, fans, and fellow musicians who continue to inspire and uplift me on this journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in music has been anything but smooth, filled with twists, turns, and unexpected challenges. One of the biggest struggles continues to be finding the balance between pursuing my passion for music and meeting the demands of everyday life. Juggling a corporate career with my musical aspirations was particularly challenging, often leaving me torn between stability and creative fulfillment. The pandemic also presented some challenging obstacles. Like many creatives, I struggled with uncertainty and financial instability, navigating a world where traditional avenues for sharing my talents were no longer viable. Every day, I have moments of self-doubt and internal struggles, questioning whether pursuing music is the right path. However, these challenges fuel my determination and resilience, pushing me to continue pursuing my dreams. It’s not easy, but each obstacle is an opportunity for growth and learning, shaping me into the artist I am today.

I am an independent musician and performer specializing in creating soulful and heartfelt music that resonates with listeners on an emotional level. My music is a blend of R&B, soul, and pop, with each song filled with authentic storytelling that is uniquely my own. I draw inspiration from personal experiences and universal love, hope, and resilience themes to create genuine emotions in my lyrics. What makes me different from others is my commitment to authenticity and connection. I take pride in sharing my story openly and honestly through my music, inviting the listeners to join me on a journey of self-discovery and reflection. I am passionate about creating a sense of community and belonging through my music, fostering meaningful connections with my audience beyond the songs themselves. My most significant achievement to date is my music’s impact on others. Whether it’s providing comfort to someone during their difficult times or inspiring others to pursue their passions, I feel fulfilled knowing that my music has touched hearts and left a lasting impression. This motivates me to continue creating music that connects with my audience.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the coming years, I see the music industry shifting towards greater independence for artists like me. Streaming platforms and social media are crucial, offering more exposure outside traditional labels. This means I’ll focus on direct releases to fans via platforms like Spotify and YouTube. With artists taking more control, I’ll engage with my dedicated audience (inner circle) on a more personal level through platforms like Patreon. Genre boundaries will continue to blur, allowing me to explore diverse styles and reach broader audiences. Despite these changes, I will focus on creating authentic music and meaningfully connecting with music lovers and fans. I’m currently redefining how I communicate with my community, offering unique experiences and access to the heart of my creative process.
