Hi Dice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
ArtChanges_TheMind was born out of a shared passion for graffiti and the transformative power of art. My partner, EVIL, and I co-founded the organization with a vision to inspire, empower, and bring people together through creative expression. From the very beginning, we believed in using art as a tool to uplift and strengthen our community, and we’ve worked hard to turn that vision into a reality.
In 2017, we hosted the first Elements of Life Festival in downtown Orlando, and it was truly the beginning of something special. The festival brings together the four elements of hip hop—graffiti, DJing, breaking, and emceeing—while emphasizing the importance of community. Over the years, the festival has grown exponentially, drawing local, national, and international artists. We’ve also added a kids’ zone, where activities like hip-hop coloring books, painting vinyl records, and planting seeds inspire creativity in younger generations.
Together, EVIL and I have built ArtChanges_TheMind to create spaces where artists and the community can connect. Whether it’s giving local vendors and food trucks a platform to reach new audiences or offering artists a chance to showcase their work on a larger stage, everything we do is rooted in empowering others. Today, the Elements of Life Festival is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of unity, culture, and the impact that art can have on a community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped the journey and made ArtChanges_TheMind stronger. Starting an organization with limited resources was a major hurdle. EVIL and I often had to stretch every dollar and find creative ways to bring our vision to life. From securing venues and sponsors to managing logistics and growing the Elements of Life Festival year after year, every step required hard work, persistence, and problem-solving.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing our passion for art with the need to run a sustainable business. Early on, we faced setbacks like venue restrictions, unexpected costs, and navigating how to create opportunities for artists while staying true to our mission. We also had to build trust within the community and convince others of the value our work could bring.
Despite the struggles, these experiences taught us resilience and strengthened our commitment. Each obstacle was an opportunity to grow and learn, and seeing the impact we’ve made in the lives of artists and our community has made it all worthwhile. The smiles at the festival, the connections formed, and the creativity unleashed are constant reminders that the journey is worth it.
