Life & Work with Dr Slay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Slay.

Hi Dr Slay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A quiet and shy introvert who turned out to have a lot to say. Originally from South Florida and moved to Orlando to attend college pursuing a business degree, but the love I had for music starting at a young age never died no matter how hard I tried to ignore it. After making strides at my jobs in the financial and banking industry, there was a sense of unfulfillment. So, I dived headfirst into the music industry. Starting off with making beats which grew into me producing and engineering others artists’ music. Now doing all of the above for myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been far from a smooth road. My biggest obstacle was and still is me. I grew up an extremely shy and quiet person with a horrible fear of public speaking and stage fright. So naturally wanting to be in the entertainment industry just made sense for me, right? Lol. Aside from that major issue, the intricacies of the business side of the music business is very complex so being self-taught with no mentor is rather difficult.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music producer, music artist, songwriter, and entrepreneur. I specialize in Hip Hop and R&B but I’m most known for rapping. I own a business named Onomaly, pronounced and means the same as the word anomaly, which means something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected. That is the overall mission of the company. We tend to go against the grain of society. On the website onomalystore.com, you are able to purchase apparel, instrumentals, music, and services.

I’m most proud of the voice that I have developed throughout this journey. The girl who was afraid to speak is now putting out music for the world to hear regularly. Having the guts to step into the limelight and share the most vulnerable parts of myself to such a judgmental society. What I believe sets me apart is that I’m willing to touch on difficult topics and uphold my morals rather than do anything for money and fame.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned so far on this journey is the importance of self-healing. Unresolved issues ultimately bleed over into every area of your life.
