Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika,
Hi Erika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During graduate school in Philadelphia, PA, I worked as an intern at a local, women-owned events and marketing company. There I discovered my passion for event planning and digital marketing. I tried my hand at event coordination by planning my own wedding, which in turn lead to designing events for friends and family.
After the birth of my son, I had a strong desire to maintain my individuality while embracing my new role of mother. That’s when Savvy Sexy Momma began.
I started a Pinterest account, and before long, I have over 202K followers! Primarily people were interested in my home organization and event planning pins.
Encouraged by this small success, a few years later, I started a boutique event planning business with a partner here in central Florida.
We became known for our unique approach to private events and gifts, which included themed diaper cakes, a collapsible Rubix cube tower, and customized balloon backdrops.
We were booked for a monthly club event and began expanding the business to include weddings, birthday parties, and other private events.
Then 2020 and the Covid-19 shutdown came, and due to safety concerns, we put event planning on hold.
In 2022, after careful consideration, I decided to relaunch my brand Savvy Sexy Momma. Currently, I post product and business review videos across my social media – being sure to highlight local and small businesses I’ve found online or on Amazon.
This has lead to me creating Amazon ‘Idea Lists’ where people can buy products based on my review content or Pinterest ‘Ideas Pins.’ As of today, I have over 91K monthly views and 94K impressions on Pinterest.
My goal as a content creator is to become a bonafide social media influencer for brands and products that make life easier (and more fun) for fellow parents.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road hasn’t been easy by any stretch of the imagination. In 2019 I was diagnosed with skin cancer and had to have two surgeries on my nose. By the end of 2020, my romantic relationship of nearly 5 years ended, so I began focusing on my health, started working out, and lost 50lbs.
At the end of 2021, I left my hospital marketing role to further my digital marketing career at a global healthcare company.
And finally, in 2022, my events business partner and I split then I had to have ankle reconstruction surgery.
All of these events lead me to where I am today – my eyes keenly focused on personal and professional growth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally I am a senior digital marketing strategist for a global healthcare company. I specialize in email marketing. I my current role I am tasked with designing and implementing email journeys to support direct-to-consumer and healthcare provider outreach campaigns. I am most proud of stepping up and sharing my outpatient experience with my previous employer. That lead to my story being shared online and my image being used on billboards across central Florida last summer.
As a content creator and nanoinfluencer I’m best known for sharing candid, honest reviews of products/services that I use in real life as well as my craft creations.
What sets me apart from some others is that I’m not your typical influencer. I’m a plus-sized elder millennial mom, so my audience tends to be skewed to women between 25 and 44. Hello #TikTokAunties!
My studies in psychology and business play a huge role in how I manage my own campaigns, plus I have a knack for relating to any audience I’m trying to reach. Further, I’ve been working in digital marketing full-time since 2007, so my professional experience spills over into this endeavor.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned along my journey is that every success and failure, every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. Also, be your authentic self!
