Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Beltran.
Hi Erika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Erika Beltran I’m 31 years old and I’m from Colombia. I’ve been living in Florida for 7 years and I started Canela Cakes 3 years ago.
I went to the cooking school GATO DUMAS in Colombia and fell in love with this beautiful career. After completing my degree, I traveled to Buenos Aires (Argentina) to spend a year there taking some extra classes and getting some pastry and chocolate art certificates. I had the opportunity to work in a few restaurants in Colombia and get experience for almost 6 years where I learned and grew as a chef.
In 2015 I came to the USA, where I met my husband and lived since. In 2019 and after planning and thinking about it we decided to start Canela Cakes with a ton of expectations of this project. This has been a path full of happiness, hard work, and a lot of cakes. The feedback we have received from our customers so far has been amazing and we are happy to keep growing and bringing to our customers a delicious experience with a beautiful cake to celebrate their special moments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been challenging sometimes. It’s not always easy to start and keep a business running bc there are a lot of things and aspects to keep in mind, not just the baking but also the administration and marketing side of the business, which can be challenging sometimes but we are still learning and improving day by day. The journey has also been amazing, filled with a lot of satisfaction and happy moments, and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to keep working on this amazing project.

I’m a professional chef with a passion for baking and decorating cakes. In Canela Cakes we focus on creating custom cakes with artistic techniques inspired by the customer requests and the theme of the celebration. The flavor is as important as the design for us that is why we created a selection of well-balanced flavors to choose from so your cake taste just as good as it looks. We worked with fresh ingredients and always make sure the final product is fresh a made with attention to detail.
What were you like growing up?
I always liked to sneak around the kitchen where my nanny was cooking and making all kinds of delicious food, she was my inspiration to get into this world and also the way that I love to eat sweets and chocolate.
