Life & Work with Fabian Pesci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Pesci.

Hi Fabian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I move to the United States from Argentina in 1998. In 2000 I started my company, Organizing by Fabian, and continued since then. In 2010 I went with my husband to Asheville, NC for vacation and fell in love with pottery. There was so much clay art there and I was fascinated. My husband Mitch recommend that I look into pottery as a hobby when we got back to Orlando. I went to the Pottery Studio, a community studio in Orlando, FL. I met a lot of potters with different styles, and I took a lot of classes and began to develop my own style using a lot of different textures. And I’ve been doing it ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, I have had some struggles especially with learning English and being dyslexic. It was difficult adapting to the culture in the United States as it was completely different from where I came from. But I’m so happy I did. I’m so happy I became a citizen as I truly love this country.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The way I make my pottery is unique and different. I make plates, trays, and bowls and they are all hand built. I use a lot of texture on the front and back, mostly lace and dollies. Sometimes I use a shower mat or a welcome mat. Matt. I learned I can use just about anything that will create an impression. I learned how to make my own glazes without lead, so they are functional and food-safe, not just decoration. I make a lot of custom plates for weddings, births, birthdays, and graduations, often putting an inscription on the back of the piece to personalize it. I’m most proud the 49 plates I made for each of the victims of Pulse Nightclub shooting.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To be yourself, enjoy every moment, and do what you love to do, not just for the money. Life goes by too quickly to be doing things you don’t like. I’ve learned to appreciate the moment and be grateful for the life I’ve created. To find an amazing husband, friends, family, and my pets to enjoy to the fullest. What makes me happy is not the money, fame, or material things but to be around people I love and that love me. See the beautiful faces of my 3 cats and vacation with my husband Mitch. Making pottery. Make the life of my clients easier through organizing their homes. Have an amazing dinner with the people I love. All this makes me life so happy.
