Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Alcaras.
Hi Gabriella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for photography started when I was a teenager. I was on a trip to NYC and I started feeling like I needed more than my phone to capture the beauty of the city. When I was back home in Venezuela, I could not stop taking pictures! I was always making plans with my friends to have them pose for me to for practice.
When I was already in college, I knew that particular career was not what I wanted to do for a living. With all my family supporting me, I left everything behind and moved to Madrid, Spain. I knew Europe was the perfect place to start my professional journey.
I signed up for a Professional Photography course there. That was when I found out what kind of photography I liked the most. Fashion and portraits.
Due to having to move again, this time to the US, I was on and off with this passion. But I have found so many supportive people in my path asking why I put my passion on hold when I really love it.. that was an eye opening moment for me and decided that it is time to be back and go stronger than ever!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been easy due to people underestimating the work and knowlegde behind this kind of art. But I truly believe that society is starting to realize that this can be a full-time job as any other and hopefully I will be able to work on this as my main job soon.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I can describe my photography as very natural and clean. I like to capture the essence of people without any backgrounds being a distraction. Definitely, my favorite work have been created in photo studios, where you can play with light and tell a story through the expression of the body. It makes me really proud to have found my style and being noticed by people that are in the industry as well.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters the most is the want and need to never stopping creating. This is what I love to do! The excitement I get behind the camera is not comparable to anything else I’ve ever known for sure. In addition, the satisfaction and excitement that I receive from my clients is an unexplainable feeling. That also drives me to want to do more. I know I will be doing this for the rest of my life.
