Life & Work with Heidi Webb of Off of International Drive in The Pointe Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Webb. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Heidi Webb

Earth Illuminated is the artful experience of the story of “seeing the Earth for the first time again.” Earth Illuminated is a small family-owned business. Husband and wife team Nate and Heidi Webb and their adult daughters, Madeline and Mercedes Webb, are the artists and storytellers. Earth Illuminated was born to remind everyone of their beauty by seeing our “Home,” a fresh and new Earth. Guests start their journey on Starship Regenesis, where they are transported to see the Earth from outer space. They continue the mission by following the footsteps of the “First Viewer” through the atmosphere, to the ocean, and reading his journal entries. Guests are encouraged to complete each scene by stepping into them. Photos and videos are encouraged. The experience is a personal journey, so expect to spend up to an hour. The artwork is touchable and designed for all the guests to interact within each scene. A careful balance of recycled, reclaimed, recyclable, and reusable items make up most artful scenes. We invite you to see the Earth Illuminated in a Whole New Light!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Earth Illuminated was originally launched in March of 2021 in downtown Denver, Colorado. Due to challenges in that market, a search was activated to find a place where Earth Illuminated could find a solid foundation to build on. In November of 2022, Earth Illuminated had the opportunity to move to Orlando, Florida, into The Pointe Orlando. A specialty lease was set up to assist the artists in moving in and starting a business. The opening date was set for March 3rd, 2023; however, two weeks before opening, it was found that there were issues with the building that would not allow Earth Illuminated to open. The Webb family poured their savings, retirement, inheritance, and credit into surviving the delay and extra costs. Finally, on August 6th, 2023, Earth Illuminated could open. Unfortunately, due to the delay and opening in a low attendance season, many cuts had to be made, forcing the Webb family to ask the community to help get the word out. Ultimately, The Webb family and Earth Illuminated are so thankful to the community and fans who have helped carry us by sharing the information and helping us keep our doors open.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Earth Illuminated is a part of many experiences and activations that The Webb family has been developing and operating over the past 25 years. The parent company that the family owns is called Blazen Illuminations and has been in business since 1998. Over the past 25 years, over 100,000 acres have been themed for various holidays and events, government buildings have been lit with specialty lighting and decor to celebrate holidays and to promote multiple tourism agendas, football stadiums have been themed in color, touring musical groups have had sets designed, music videos have been produced, and sculptures for immersive experiences have been made and installed. We are most proud of the work we are doing at Earth Illuminated because we are in the process of telling a unique story that has never been heard before and yet feels familiar. We look forward to the future as we branch out and tell our stories through comic books, short films, and more immersive story experiences.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Heidi Webb, one of the founders of Earth Illuminated, has many fond childhood memories. Her father was the Entertainment Director for Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado, in the 1970s. She enjoyed watching her parents perform on the stages and watch the sunset on the Ferris wheel.
