Life & Work with Holly Caputo of Dr. Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Caputo.

Holly Caputo

Hi Holly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in NY, and started in the entertainment business at the age of 3 as a Actor, Singer, Dancer. I had my professional career, and became an agent, and agency owner for 10 years, having offices both in Orlando and Miami, Florida. During the end of my career as an agent, I realized that although I was a great agent, what I most enjoyed was trying to help my actors and models in perfecting their craft. I also found, that through taking model digitals all the time as an agent, and having the knowledge of what a great industry picture was, that I really loved Photography and really wanted to pursue industry photography sessions. So after retiring from agency life, I opened The Star Movement, where I could work 1-on-1 with with Actors, and Models, teaching them technique, making sure that they had the proper portfolio pictures and headshots, and then helping them with landing an agent in the major markets.

During the pandemic, the entertainment industry took a huge hit, and while I did continue to offer actor/model coaching and development and audition prep, for the few and far between auditions that were going on, as well as photography, I also started travelvlogging. I had done a lot of traveling in my life, and the video skills that I had at the time, were putting my actors, and models “on tape” for auditions, so doing long form video editing , and adding my voiceover (which took me back to my acting days) was all new for me, but I found that I loved trying to create emotional moments, as well as trying to be cinematic with my editing and photography/video skills.

Today, I full time travelvlog with my youtube channel @ hollycaputowanderlust. I still do 1-on-1 coaching and development both “in-person” and via skype for Actors and Models, and I am a full time Photographer for Travel, Actor Headshots, Model Portfolios and Model Digitals.

The Entertainment Business truly created such building blocks for me in life, giving me the chance to really take on some incredible opportunities, and I will forever be grateful.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is life ever smooth…no…. the pandemic was a huge hit for the entertainment industry. With no filming nor performances going on, it truly shut the entire industry down. It also made it impossible for people in the industry, who were just struggling to make “ends meat” financially to take classes, or get new pictures down.

And then on the travel side…with everything shutdown and then having to get tested all the time, traveling had to be strategic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most proud of my journey….and how I have constantly evolved and grown.

What sets me apart from others is that I have played all sides of the Entertainment Business. Most have never gone from being an agent, and then gone back on to development. I did it not only because I enjoyed it, and knew that I truly had a gift for reaching people and turning on these “light bulbs,” but I also found that there was a giant hole in the industry, where people were missing the proper information especially in learning “about the business,” and because I love this industry so much, I felt that it was my job to make sure that people were getting the proper information. I wasn’t looking to make a dollar off of people, as most do in this industry, I was looking to instead show them where “the light at the end of the tunnel,” was so that they truly stood a chance at being successful in the industry.

I think even with travelvlogging, that I bring something different to the table, my channel isn’t “about me” it’s about the travel, the experience, and the proper information. I think at the end of the day, that’s what I do best, I try to give people good information….

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I don’t think that anyone’s success comes just from themself….

First and foremost, my parents, and my brother have always been my greatest cheerleaders, and have always been right there to support every decision that I’ve ever made, and I think that every teacher that I’ve had in the industry, other agents, my previous staff at my agency, and even my previous relationship, have played a huge role in influencing me, my decisions, helping me, and just being there for me, to help create the success that I have seen to date. I wouldn’t be where I am today without any of those people.
