Today we’d like to introduce you to Izabelle Veno
Hi Izabelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started writing at the age of 9. Initially it started as extra credit work, just to keep me busy as I tended to be ahead of my classmates. I would write small poems, miniature paragraphs, just minor writings. It also helped me cope as I was living a rough life at home. Being the eldest daughter, and coming from an extremely broken and blended family, I had a lot of pressure on me, from being the best to making everyone proud to being the sister my siblings deserved. I started writing more frequently, especially as I entered middle school. While in middle school, I took a class that taught me how to edit videos, take photos/videos, and make digital music. Those skills provided immense benefits as I progressed with my writing into high school. At this time I was going through a lot mentally and relied on my poems to get me through the tough times. My friends and family began to ask me to write for them, photograph/videograph and edit their content for them. I had started learning the hacks of social media as well. Out of high school and to this day, I continue to use my writing to benefit those around me, providing comfort to those in need as well as taking photos and videos on the daily. Present day I am a Public Relations Officer of my club and I continue to write and produce digital content.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I dealt with a lot of mental health conditions, while encountering lots of traumatic events, such as losing both of my grandparents, being sexually harassed/assaulted, and being in an abusive relationship. I was struggling to find healthy coping skills, and slowly also stopped writing. I lost myself in the mess of life and ended up just forgetting who I was. I had to step back and started loving nature and seeing the beauty in life, leading me to return to writing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a poet as well as the founder of my sports blog called Queen of the Court and Game, writing consistently. I started my writing journey as a poet, where I still perform monthly at spoken word competitions, as well as more recently running my sports blog about sporting events, as I hope to develop a career out of it. I am part of multiple minority groups, and use my culture and how I grew up to affect my writing. It grows my passion in writing to affect industries such as the entertainment sector, sports and more. I love to break barriers and become a big competition to others, reinventing and reimagining the world through writing.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Writing fulfills me, as I can share my thoughts, opinions, feelings, and experiences with the world. It makes me happy knowing people can connect with me, and be able to inspire others to write and read.
