Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Guzman.
Hi Izzy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My earliest memory with makeup was when I was 3 years old dressed up as a princess for Halloween. I had frosty blue eyeshadow and reapplied my clear lip-gloss all night long. I don’t know of a time in my life where I wasn’t interested in it and my parents always supported my curiosity for all things beauty.
As I got older, I would practice my makeup all the time with nowhere to go. My friends and classmates would compliment my makeup and soon would ask if I could do theirs. When I was 16 my friend, Gigi asked if anyone could do her makeup for homecoming, and I volunteered knowing I had no clue what I was doing. I remember being nervous but loving it anyway. I mentioned to her that I would love to be an MUA but never really thought it would happen. Soon after, other people from school would ask me to help them for homecoming, prom, and graduations.
Makeup became a form of therapy for me as I got into playing with color, different shapes and textures – it was my art. I’m 22 now and my love for makeup has shifted into a love for my artistry and doing makeup on other people. I’ve always loved doing people’s makeup and decided at the beginning of 2022 that I was going to delve into it completely. I’m so glad I did! It’s been amazing being a part of wedding days, maternity photos, and other big milestones.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, there’s been many times where I’ve questioned if I was on the right path or if I was good enough. This city is full of incredibly talented artists, and I experienced imposter syndrome a lot and still do every now and then. I think it’s something all creatives go through at some point. While struggles may still arise, I’m always investing in myself and constantly improving.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a traveling makeup artist. I specialize in photoshoots, weddings, and event makeup. I would say I’m known for soft glam as that’s my most popular service.
I’m most proud that people who would not usually wear makeup put their trust in me to glam them time and time again.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt to whatever my client is comfortable with while still being my style. I love being able to service anyone from any age group, any skin tone, and any skin type.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say my professionalism is most important to my success because it’s what my clients compliment me on the most. As a consumer myself I value it a lot in others. Being kind and nice to work with can take you so far in any industry.
