Life & Work with J Lamaar

Today we’d like to introduce you to J Lamaar.

Hi J, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I been involved with music since I was a kid. I use to sing in church when I was 7 and started recording music once I got to middle school. After high school, I joined the Army. In the Army, I worked on music and performed at a few clubs and festivals in Germany. That’s where I was station. But I took a break to deploy to Afghanistan for a year. Once I got out the Army, I made it my mission to move to Florida and attend Full Sail University. I started fully focusing on creating music and getting better at audio engineering. I was once told that the more you know about the technical of your craft the better you can create. Over the last three years, I have been focusing on learning myself and the different elements of music I feel it takes to create the type of sounds and music I would like to create. Which brings me to today I am in a band I have three EPs out titled “In the Clouds” with the song titled P.T.S.D was donated to United Way and all the proceeds go to the city I was raised Greensboro NC to help the homeless Community. My other two EPS are titled Sky and The Great Twins. I am currently a lead singer of a band called Ether and I also work on solo projects. I am an engineer and artist at Jaica Creatives and I promote for nightclubs downtown like EVE Orlando while completing my degree at Full Sail University. I will have a new project coming out this year the release will be announced soon.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but I feel like to get where you want to be you got to sacrifice former forms of yourself. In the midst of that sacrifices, you got to be able to overcome obstacles. Some of my obstacles were having faith getting out the army and moving to Florida. I had to make sure I can provide for myself and pursue my goals so another challenge was creating passive income so I started a property as an Airbnb before I moved here and managing to challenges of balance.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer-songwriter and engineer I also do photography. The type of music I specialize in is Neo soul and R&B music and I’m mostly known for in the areas as well. I feel that I am most proud of being able to create music the way I want and not based off social standards or label control. Because I do everything myself as an independent artist and entrepreneur. I feel like what sets me apart is my original approach to how I create music and my life experiences that set me apart. I feel that my work ethic and positive motivation is also a factor that sets me apart.

What’s next?
My plan is to complete school at Full Sail then move to Miami and network with local recording studios and artists. Build a name there and eventually work with artists like Travis Scott, Brent Fayiaz, and others. In the next 6 months, I plan to release new music with videos and have more shows.
