Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Hill.
Hi Jack, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started sculpting while living on my sail boat in the Florida Keys following an 18 year career in theater as a mime and magician and ventriloquist.
Did an apprenticeship at a local bronze foundry to learn the “lost wax” casting process. Made my first bronze sculpture in 1995 and have been creating art works and selling them at shows and galleries ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Doing out door art shows is physically and emotionally demanding. Weather and public response is always fickle, so it is essential to remain flexible and stay optimistic.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in bronze and carved wood and repourposed materials.
I have many subjects and approach each work with whimsy and seriousness of purpose.
My signature piece has become “ON A ROLL” a 7 foot tall banana on rollerskates. It becomes a focal point where ever it placed, the most recent one being on the campus of the University of Tampa.
What were you like growing up?
I was the class clown.
