Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Harris.
Hi Jade, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since the age of four, I have been a personal massage therapist for my whole family. It started with my dad as my number one client and him teaching me most of the things I know today. More of my family members started to find out about the magic of my tiny hands. Whenever someone was in pain my name was called to relieve tension and alleviate it. As I got older, I grew a passion for cooking but culinary school didn’t go as planned. After getting in a car accident, I was sent to a chiropractor’s office where massage was re-introduced to my life.
There, I find myself asking questions to my fellow massage therapist there, so amazed by the work they were doing. There, I received my first massage and I fell in love once again. Once I got all the details, I felt like I needed, little to no time I ordered a table and I began to practice my passion. I made an Instagram page and put “under construction” in my bio until I was ready to promote, post, and educate myself. I began school at Cortiva Institute where I am currently still studying.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Going to school for massage therapy and learning all that I have opened my eyes so much who would’ve known I would learn more than just about rubbing someone? The academics is not a smooth road it’s pretty bumpy and curvy. Hard work!! 600 hours to complete and 100 bodies to touch without pay!
On March 26, I broke my arm and it was a fear that my career would end, especially since the doctor told me that I will be down for a year. At school, my teacher had a fear that his license will be jeopardized so they put me on an optional leave of absence (LOA) with only 100 hours away from the finish line to complete and be done with school. I didn’t let that stop me and I continued to go to school to practice massage with a cast.
Today, I am four months into my healing process and my healing has been a success. Consistency and persistence got me to where I am today. Extremely motivated by healing others.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am Jade of All Trades! The more value you add to your life the more doors open to making a change. I’d rather learn more than one skill than be the master of one. I consider myself a body healer and worker. Massage melodies are about manipulating the muscle and making them melt. When my hands touch a patient, it begins to dance. I allow my patient to choose the melodies they would like to hear and I come into their world. Understanding the body’s trauma and pain brings forth healing.
I am proud of all the connections I’ve made with people and organizations at only the age of 21. I am going to end up somewhere in Indonesia massaging elephants, mark my words! Lol, I think that’s what sets me apart from others because I am driven and highly motivated. Seeing everything as a reflection, I allow the world to humble me. I see my vision clearly and I’m creating my reality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The role of being a serious professional is very important, especially in the field of massages.
Being nice and too sweet can come off as something other than therapy so learning to be stern cautious and safe are the most important roles/rules to live by protecting any business.
