Life & Work with Joelson De Castro Pinto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joelson De Castro Pinto.

Hi Joelson, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, my name is Joelson de Castro Pinto, people here know me as Joe Castro, I’m 46 years old, born in Brazil. I’ve been a singer since I’m 6 years old. Became professional at it when recorded my first LP (Long Play) album back in 1988. Moved to America in 1992. On that same year, I was hired to perform at the legendary THE BRAZILIAN TROPICANA RESTAURANT in Pompano Beach Florida. And few months after I was hired by CAMILA’S BRAZILIAN CUISINE know as one of the most popular Brazilian restaurants in South Florida, as a singer and worked there for 5 years. Unfortunately, I was forced to move back to Brazil in 1997 to help my mom after my father passed way.

Living in Brazil again and with a new musicality, that Gave me many opportunities to show my talent to a lot of different artists like Bruno & Marrone, Eduardo Costa, and Zezé DiCamrgo & Luciano tô name a few and by doing so I got Nominated for 2013 Latin Grammy Song of the year. The chance to ever come back to the United States took years to happen again until 2016. That’s When I moved back to Florida with my wife and 2 beautiful daughters.

Alongside my older brother, we put together a musical project for 2 years called, the JAY BROTHERS – Tributo Sertanejo (A tribute to the music of our country). We were everywhere doing our concerts and winning a lot of attention and recognition from the public and the media. We we’re twice winners of BRAZILIAN FOCUS AWARD as Best Brazilian Group in both SOUTH FLORIDA and ORLANDO.

At the year of 2018, I was hired to perform weekly at BOTECO DO MANOLO-Orlando. One the most important restaurants among the Brazilian community and tourists. Every Friday I performed at the Deerfild Beach MANOLO and Saturday and I’m back here in Orland performing from 8-12 now there for almost 3 years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth ride!!! To make it easy to explain, 3 things made the ride more difficult. Being a foreigner, Being young inexperienced, and being a musician. Most people don’t understand the problems we as an immigrant have to face amid trying your best to comply with the government’s standards. It requires a lot of work, investment, patience, and perseverance! Having to face an adult life and its responsibilities at a young age was very difficult. Pay the rent, pay the auto finance, insurance, food, immigration services, and a lot more at the age of 16, way from family, childhood friends, having to learn a totally new language… wow it was tough and on top of that, I had to do it with a musician salary. Let’s talk about miracle!!! Lol

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been a Brazilian singer and musician since age 6. Basically, all my music background came from what I call BRAZILIAN. COUNTRY MUSIC and American songs. After so many years in the industry, I had to expand not only my musicality but also my talents. Since 1998 I’m also a music producer with recognition within the Brazilian artists and music industry, a composer nominated for Latin Grammy award for Best Brazilian Song in 2013, Being able to speak fluently 3 languages gave me a capability to compose, translate and create Songs that made me different in the industry.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Like any profession, what you Know and Do it is for OTHERS not you yourself. So, for me, TO SERVE matters! Not only matters but it’s the ULTIMATE PURPOSE of one’s life. Can’t ask a doctor to perform A surgery on himself, he will need the help of another to do it. You got my example right! My gift it is NOT FOR ME it is for others.

I’ve heard him sing at “Manolo’s Restaurant” and at a couple of private events. He’s amazing! Very professional and has a beautiful voice.
