Life & Work with Jules Botticello of Orlando/Colonialtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Botticello.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into performing actually started as a personal challenge. Back in 2011, while working in the corporate world, I made it a goal each year to learn something new. That year, I chose stilt walking — completely outside my comfort zone, but from the first lesson, I was hooked. Before long, I was auditioning, performing, and eventually leaving my corporate job to pursue entertainment full time. I’ve never looked back.

Since then, stilt performance has opened up incredible opportunities for me to work with Orlando based companies like Odd-o-Ts Entertainment and DSquared Productions. I’ve had the chance to perform in numerous theme parks, parades, corporate events, festivals, and large-scale productions. My work has also allowed me to travel around the country, sharing performances with audiences nationwide. What began as a simple experiment quickly became my calling. In 2020, I expanded into aerial arts, which brought a new layer of creativity and storytelling to my work

This passion eventually grew into my own freelance business, JulesKBee Entertainment, where I provide stilt walkers and specialty performers for local events. I love collaborating with clients to create custom looks and memorable experiences.

Throughout this adventure, I’ve been so grateful for my husband, David, who’s typically behind the scenes making sure everything runs seamlessly, and equally thankful for the incredible creative community here in Orlando. Every event, costume, and crowd reminds me how lucky I am to do what I love and keep growing along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many performers, my path hasn’t been without its challenges. In the entertainment world, you hear the word “no” a lot and in Orlando, where there’s so much incredible talent, the competition can be tough. There have been plenty of auditions that didn’t go the way I hoped, and times I had to look inward and figure out how to grow from each experience instead of letting it discourage me.

I’ve learned that success takes persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to think outside the box. Sometimes that meant creating my own opportunities developing new characters, and/or learning new skills. Each challenge, even the tough ones, pushed me to evolve and find new ways to keep doing what I love.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Through my business, I specialize in stilt walking, custom costuming, and aerial arts. I’m passionate about creating warm immersive performances that entertain audiences of all ages.

Some of my proudest moments include stilt walking in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the past six years and collaborating with Creative City Project for their annual IMMERSE event in Downtown Orlando. My husband and I have designed and built large-scale installations like Reflect (2021) and Night Bloom (2025), which allowed us to merge performance art, technology, and human connection in unforgettable ways.

What sets my work apart is the creativity, care, and attention to detail I bring to each project. Whether performing high above the crowd or crafting a new concept, I aim to spark wonder and connection, to help people see the world as a little more magical, even just for a moment.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that often surprises people is how I use my performance skills outside of my regular performances. I volunteer as a stilt walker for charities and community foundations including Runway to Hope, BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation, and Light the Night. Giving back through performance is deeply meaningful and important to me and reminds me how powerful art can be in bringing people together.
