Today we’d like to introduce you to Kedrick Pasley.
Hi Kedrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when my mom was pregnant with me. She says that when music would play, her stomach would start moving around. And as soon as the music stopped, so did her stomach. In those moments is when she knew she had an entertainer on her hands. Shortly after having me, we attended a lot of my mom and dad’s friend’s weddings and I was always the first on the dance floor at the reception leading the line dances and getting the party started. From there, she put me into my first dance class at the age of three. By the age of seven, I became a competitive dancer with my home studio, Just Dance! in Charleston, SC, and immediately knew I wanted to pursue dance as a career. I trained in as many styles as I could to be as versatile as I can be. I competed for nine years meeting some of the best in the industry. I went to a performing arts middle/high school, Charleston County School of the Arts, where I majored in dance all seven years getting more training under my belt. After graduating high school, I went to SC State University and received my BFA in Communications while still continuing dance on the side. I had the pleasure of traveling to dance conventions, taking class and assisting as well. After graduating college, I moved to Orlando, FL, where I’m currently still at, to work for Walt Disney World and the opportunities I’ve had in Orlando have surpassed my expectations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s not always been smooth, but always been worth the wait or the struggle. There’s always something to learn and grow from in any obstacle thrown your way. At times, in the beginning it was hard watching others flourish faster than me. But I realized that it just wasn’t my time yet. The more patient and focused I was on me and my craft, is when opportunities came right to me when I least expected, and that’s more rewarding than anything cause there’s room for everyone to be great!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional dancer in Orlando, Florida. I’d say I specialize in theatrical and commercial dancing. Between working many shows and parades at Walt Disney World and the commercial work I’ve done in Orlando, it’s allowed me to show my range as a performer and I’m enjoying it. I’m most proud of my opportunities that I’ve gotten outside of Disney. I say this because I didn’t think it was possible to do the things I’ve done here in this city and it’s opened my eyes to so much more and I’m extremely grateful for it. I believe my work ethic sets me apart from others. I can’t stay still for long and am always looking for the next best thing that can help me grow as a dancer as well as a person.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Rita and Frederick Pasley, my parents deserve the most credit. They’ve instilled this go getter mindset into me at a young age and their work ethic has lingered on to me in my life. They keep me grounded and hungry for more. I have to give a huge shoutout to my dance mom, Buffi Wade, director of Just Dance. She took me under her wings immediately and is a major reason why I’m the dancer I am today. Ashlee Ratigan, my high school dance teacher, opened my eyes to dancing at Disney World. And most importantly, God gets all of the credit for blessing me with this talent and gift that I’m able to share with the world.
