Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierra Sari
Hi Kierra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as a songwriter started when I began journaling at a young age. For as long as I can recall, my mother would encourage me to keep a diary and journal every night. My journaling led me to writing poetry, and poetry led me to creating my own songs. After all, songs are poetry! Writing became the way I creatively expressed my feelings and emotions.
My story as a singer began at a very young age as well. Both of my parents were avid music lovers and would incorporate music in my bedtime routine and other daily activities. When I was around five years old, I saw a singer performing live at a festival in our small Georgia town. My mom said I looked up at her with wide eyes and excitedly expressed, “Mommy, I want to do that when I grow up!”
From that day forward I began creating my own songs and dance routines, performing at local talent shows and events, taking dance lessons, and became involved in anything that led me towards achieving my dream.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. This journey has come with its fair share of highs and lows. Having a thick skin in the entertainment industry is vital for success. If you let the word “no” stop you, you won’t make it very far. Being able to take a setback and turn it into a comeback is one thing I’ve had to learn. You may take a few L’s before you receive a win. I have made a lot of sacrifices along the way.
Many of the turning points in my career were accompanied by loss. My greatest obstacle has been my mother passing away in May of 2023. My mother was my biggest fan and greatest influence in my music career. She was also my best friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her love and support. Alchemizing the pain has become my focus. Not letting the pain stop me, but rather allowing it to fuel my creativity and express my grief in a healthy way has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter and performing artist. My current music catalogue consists of mostly R&B and my songs are often described as relaxing and calming. I do have more upbeat music on the way though! Early next year I’ll be delving into more pop and hip-hop. I feel like my upcoming releases are perfect for boosting confidence and making you want to dance! Regardless of the tempo, each song tells a story. I create these stories through first hand experience or my perception of events happening around me.
When you listen to my music, you are taking a step into my world.
My music holds substance. I think the message behind each track sets it apart from the majority of what you hear nowadays. My goal is to create songs that can do for others what music did for me. If my music can bring a sense of peace, comfort, happiness and hope to just one person that listens to it, then I did something right. That is how I measure my success and that is what makes me proud.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The city of Orlando is filled with talented underground artists and I love that! Having the limitless creative energy of Orlando surrounding me is truly inspiring. I am grateful for all of the genuine connections I have made with like minded individuals in the area. My least favorite thing about the city is the traffic, but I heard we may get flying taxis in the near future so it’s not a dealbreaker!
