Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Gordon.
Hi Lawrence, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a hip-hop artist in 1992. Through my hip-hop ventures, I’ve experienced so many lessons. In 2019 I converted my hip-hop group into an entertainment company. Surrealist Entertainment has done various shows and included Surreal Talk Radio 91.5FM. It’s a weekly college radio show featuring local artists and public figures.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I’ve faced so much opposition from the powers that be, all the competition that the hip-hop culture perpetuates. And the psychological struggles within my community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hip-hop artist, a DJ, a radio personality, and a talent scout. Most known for our local monthly talent show called Showtime In Sanford. People always say they love how diverse our shows are. Diversity sets us apart.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
We continually take a financial risk every month since we fund our events entirely and refuse to become a non-profit Organization.
