Life & Work with Lisa Hill of Downtown Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Hill

Hi Lisa , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story begins on January 20, 1986—a day that changed the course of my life. It was the day I passed my real estate license exam and launched my career as a residential real estate appraiser. Back then, I had no idea how transformative this industry would be for me.

In the early 1990s, new regulations required appraisers to obtain additional credentials. This meant taking another state exam to become a State Licensed Residential Appraiser. Not long after earning that license, I took a bold step and opened an appraisal firm. For the next two decades, I thrived in the appraisal world, but I found myself yearning for something new.

In 2008, as the real estate bubble burst, I made the daring decision to transition into residential real estate sales. Many thought I was crazy to jump into the industry during such turbulent times, but I saw an opportunity to help people navigate the housing crisis. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I discovered a passion for guiding clients through difficult situations and helping them find stability during uncertain times.

A few years later, I opened a small boutique brokerage, carving out a niche in the local market. Not long after, a close friend and Team Leader at Keller Williams Winter Park approached me about merging my brokerage with Keller Williams. I took the leap, and it was another pivotal moment in my career.

From there, my journey accelerated. I became actively involved with the Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA), serving on various committees and eventually running for the Board of Directors. This marked the beginning of an incredible eight-year leadership path.

I was honored to be elected as the 2023 President of ORRA—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Representing our members and promoting Orlando real estate on a global stage was an experience I’ll never forget. The following year, I served as District 12 Vice President for Florida Realtors while also taking on the role of Team Leader at Keller Williams Realty at the Parks.

Looking back, my career has been a whirlwind of challenges, growth, and opportunities. From my humble beginnings as an appraiser to becoming a leader in the real estate industry, every step has been a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the power to seize the right opportunities. As my journey continues, I remain committed to empowering others and shaping the future of real estate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed it all—the highs, the lows, and the unexpected twists that keep this industry as dynamic as it is challenging. From skyrocketing interest rates to record lows, a devastating market crash, and lawsuits that sparked sweeping changes, the struggles I’ve seen have shaped not only the industry but also my perspective as a real estate professional.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the Team Leader of Keller Williams Realty at the Parks, I have the privilege of overseeing a dynamic team that specializes in buying, selling, and leasing real estate. It’s a role that allows me to not only stay deeply connected to the industry but also share the knowledge and insights I’ve gained over the years with aspiring agents. I am most proud of all of my accomplishments throughout my career, i.e. President of ORRA, Director at state & national levels, a graduate of Leadership Orlando, a graduate of Florida Realtors Leadership Academy just to name a few.
What sets me apart is the foundation of my career—years of education, hands-on experience, and a tenure that has weathered the ups and downs of the market.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The real estate industry is constantly evolving, so staying educated is essential. Take time to understand market trends, legal requirements, and best practices. Invest in professional development by attending workshops, earning certifications, and learning from seasoned agents. Knowledge is your most powerful tool. Partnering with an experienced mentor or joining a collaborative team can accelerate your growth. A mentor can provide guidance, share insights, and help you navigate the challenges of starting out. Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed. Real estate success doesn’t happen overnight. The first year or two can be tough, but don’t let that discourage you. Consistency is key—stay focused on building your client base, nurturing leads, and learning the business. Over time, your hard work will pay off. Real estate is a rewarding career that allows you to meet new people, solve problems, and make a difference in your clients’ lives. Celebrate your wins, learn from your challenges, and embrace the adventure of helping others achieve their dreams. Starting a career in real estate is a leap of faith, but with hard work, perseverance, and the right mindset, it can lead to a fulfilling and successful journey. The possibilities are endless—dive in with confidence!
