Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis G. Moreno.
Hi Luis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from The Bronx, New York, I am a digital artist based in North Miami, Florida. Since starting my Instagram account in 2017 exclusively for my artwork. (@MorenoArtwork).
I have found success creating fan art for professional wrestlers, superheroes, films, and K-POP idols. My work has been recognized by companies like DC Comics, WWE Network, KCON USA, JYP Entertainment, Warner Bros. Studios, and Regal Theaters.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I almost didn’t create an instagram account exclusively for my artwork. I was afraid of having my artwork on a popular public platform like Instagram. I dreaded running the risk of having my work judged on the comments or worst having my creations or fan art copied and used without my permission.
Over time I have learned that these are fears other digital artists also have before posting their work on social media platforms. I’m grateful I took a chance with the hope that the pros will outweigh the cons.
I wouldn’t have experienced so many wonderful opportunities or made so many lifetime friendships today if I had not started that instagram accounts a few years back. I very much cherish all the good that came from putting my artwork out in the world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am most known for creating fan art of K-pop idols (singers and groups) and creating stickers, mini posters, postcards, and T-shirts with this K-POP-related artwork. I enjoy going to K-POP events (concerts for example) or K-POP stores ( Kpop Kastle in Davie, FL or Kpoppin USA in Orlando) and doing giveaways of my work for the respective fans of specific K-POP idols (singers) or a specific group (for example TWICE, BTS or BLACKPINK) This year (2023), I was asked to design a cup-sleeve celebrating the birthday of J-Hope (Idol/singer from BTS) for a promotional event hosted by Choong Man Chicken Davie, FL (Korean Fried Chicken) Around 200+ fans visited the establishment to get their hands on a cup-sleeve designed by me. This was such a humbling moment for me.
What sets me apart from other digital artists is that I enjoy drawing in a “cute style”. In 2021, I was an award winner of the DC FanDome art competition. My cute style of fan art of the Justice League was chosen from thousands of worldwide submissions by the Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics and comic book legend, Jim Lee. This accomplishment gave me the self-confidence to never doubt myself or my art style and to always feel proud and grateful for my “cute style” of artwork.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I am an artist/social media creator that never stops learning.
I enjoy speaking to other artists/creators directly, either through zoom calls or in person for lunch. I enjoy supporting what they feel passionate about while at the same time learning from them. I enjoy taking online classes through the app Udemy from time to time. I am always learning something new to complement my craft.
