Life & Work with Lukas Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lukas Gomez.

Hi Lukas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.

My story begins in early 2006. It was the time where YouTube and social media was starting to develop. Everything was fresh and brand new, and the idea of being able to share content and create entertaining videos was something that wasn’t fully understood at the time. I went to school in Tampa FL after moving from New York, and the change of scenery and lifestyle definitely had its effects on me. I made some friends in my neighborhood and what I didn’t realize at the time was that I was creating lifelong friendships with people that I still speak to this day. As a group, we began to make silly videos that we would post online hoping that one day we would get some recognition. As the years went by, we became known as “the group who made online videos”.

Editing videos with my friends eventually became more than just a hobby. As I was growing up, I started getting recognition from people who needed serious video content for their businesses, athletic teams, brand image, and more.

I wasn’t sure where this was going to take me, but I loved the idea that I was able to create something for people consistently. Working with so many different people has taught me unique skills that I believe could have only been obtained through my videography and photography experiences. I pushed myself into gigs or jobs that would challenge me: on my interactions, my use of equipment, and creativity behind the vision my client and I would have to share (at times). I truly believed that was the only way I was going to learn and get ahead to the next level of expertise.

I began my own freelancing business after graduating high school. I’ve worked on commercial business videos, online web content for social media, Greek life philanthropy events, and even music videos. My favorite type of video to create are wedding recaps; the excitement and adrenaline of capturing a special day is something that I love experiencing. I guess not knowing what kind of video I will work on next is what keeps me excited and wanting more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pursuing your passion is never a smooth road, in my opinion at least. I consider myself as the “black sheep” of my family, so my biggest obstacle was overcoming my parents’ opinions on my career choice. Like myself, they were also learning about the new world we were starting to live in. Social media, content creation, and creative careers were a brand-new concept for them. I knew they wanted the best for me. I spent many years going back and forth with them about what this path meant for me and my future. In hindsight, however, I see this obstacle now as something that ignited my drive to keep pursuing my passions. This drive led to other doors opening for me such as starting a music a career, voice acting, and hosting local events. Today I find myself part of an amazing collective called LCD (pronounced “Lucid”) Entertainment. A group of amazing creatives that range from music producers, makeup artist, photographers, videographers, and music artist. I could talk about them all day, but I truly believe that every obstacle I have overcame has led me here to create with these amazing individuals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Producer, and I’m so proud of myself that I am able to say that. This can range from being a video producer to producing a song to curating marketing materials for local events or businesses. These steps begin with analyzing the project or task and creating a game plan as to what would work best, visually, to represent that. Next, I curate the gallery of content to form someone’s pieces into a masterpiece. Lastly, I review and add any accents that may elevate the visual, and send it off to the client/ team!

I’m most known for my role as a versatile artist, bringing fresh ideas and skills to create something out of nothing. My most memorable experience was a recap video I made in 2017; although it may be a smaller scale project, and something simple to others, it shaped the way I viewed my projects thereafter. It took over a year to make, allowed me to capture precious memories of those around me, and utilize my ever-growing skills in producing. In the end, I shared it on multiple social media platforms, mainly YouTube, and it curated a mini-community of those who were a part as well as those who really enjoyed viewing. The whole experience supported the idea that I didn’t need validation from others; I felt content with my craft and knew that I am really great at what I do and that it only goes up from here. I wouldn’t say I am really proud of a project alone, but mainly in the evolution of my overall journey because I didn’t let the obstacles and hardships get the best of me.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I can’t give myself all the credit, my family and close friends overall, especially my siblings and cousins, were the main influences to my leap into this career. They always pushed me to think outside the box. The consistent support from them inspired me to show the world what I was truly capable of. As for my close friends, they never failed to support and uplift all my ideas throughout the time I started this journey. No matter how crazy or intricate the ideas I made were, they always knew the right thing to say/do that’d take me further into my success. I shared so many moments, both great and unpleasant, yet their feedback and care for my improvement shaped the way I saw certain visions and overall helped me become a better creator for others. To this day, they look out for me and what I can do to make any vision come to life, and for that, I am also tremendously grateful.

Lastly, I’d like to send a special thank you to my clients who always have trusted me with their visions and precious memories, as well as sharing the experience we had by recommending me to those around them.
