Life & Work with Marquis Mattocks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquis Mattocks.

Hi Marquis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I first got started as a cosplayer/YouTuber during high school. We were trying to gain money for our Anime Club by making our own Youtube series that brought together the talent of everyone who was in the club. After graduating, it went from being a simple club to hobby to being my newest obsession. I began going to local conventions such as Megacon, every year. And with each year I had the privilege of meeting more and more talented individuals who we welcome on to our cast and crew

And now 14 years later, we’ve been working on this live-action anime web series, we call THE ANIME ALLIANCE for almost a decade and a half, and its stronger than ever, with new projects on the horizon as well

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any journey, there have definitely been some rough patches here and there. Becoming a Youtuber and making your mark on that platform is incredibly hard as you try your best to stand out above the rest. There are definitely days when I’ve been on the brink of giving up. It’s only because of my extreme love for this project and the work I do, on top of the immense amount of support I have from my team that I’ve been able to make it this far

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a cosplayer, photographer, actor, and the director of my own live-action anime series on Youtube called THE ANIME ALLIANCE. To give a brief idea of what the show is about, THE ANIME ALLIANCE is a live-action anime series set in a world where humans are suddenly gifted with the powers of famed anime heroes and villains and the resulting chaos that would come from living in a world like that. The fun spin on the show though is that despite having these powers, each character uses those abilities in their own unique way while still paying homage to the characters that they were inspired from

Aside from just THE ANIME ALLIANCE, however, I also have been to and worked as press for big events like E3, a huge gaming event where some of the biggest names come out to announce the latest developments within the gaming industry. And I’ve done a small amount of voice acting as well. I’m also very big into the cosplay world where I’ve modeled as well-known characters from pop culture many times

I’d argue what sets us apart in the best way considering today’s climate, is that we have a very diverse of team of ethnic professionals lending their talent to make our short films and videos truly standout, especially in comparison with some of our competition within the same niche as us

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Funny enough I can’t really thing of a specific one. Honestly, I had a pretty standard but great childhood. I’m lucky to have a very supportive mother who’s always encouraged me to follow my dreams even against her better judgment at times. And I think I’ve carried that spirit onward into my adult life to this very day
