Life & Work with Mary Jarvis of Ormond Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Jarvis.

Mary Jarvis

Hi Mary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My intent with jumping into this industry at 40 yrs old was to honestly help myself age better and I wanted access to products and services at a discounted price. I wasn’t sure that it would ever develop into a career for me.  I left my job as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at the hospital to assist my husband with our A/C company in March of 2020. I decided to go back to school for skincare at the same time. I graduated from Florida Dermal Institute in Longwood, FL, and started my journey from there! I can’t recommend them enough. I stumbled upon Omorfia in Ormond Beach, FL, while looking for facial services for myself. I started getting facials and medical-grade skin care to help my skin look and feel great! The owner, Katherine Paspalakis, called me up a few months later and offered me a position as an esthetician- I was thrilled! I decided to take this career very seriously because It allowed me to help people achieve their goals again, and I had missed that! I started taking advanced classes and furthering my education in products and services. I am currently acquiring my Master Hydra and Acne Specialist Certification. I have already completed a Master’s in Dermaplaning, advanced peel education, Microneedling, and more! My experience in the medical field and working alongside multiple specialists has facilitated and influenced my outcomes with clients. I love helping people transform not only their skin, but overall confidence in themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my first year in this position, I was challenged! Omorfia and going to work were the only positive things happening for me then. My daughter’s lupus had flared, and we were in and out of specialists and ER visits almost weekly. My dog had contracted a horrible virus and was sick for 2 months, requiring constant care and home-cooked meals. We had to move 2x’s and are currently building a home, and honestly, the list goes on. Growing within this industry, frankly, kept me sane and gave me a very positive distraction during a very challenging year. Moral of the story- no matter what you’re going through, just keep going. God is so good!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of my clientele growth and establishing loyal friendships within the last 6-8 months. Media Content creator Erin Hall and I, have taken the Florida Skin Girl Instagram page to the next level by creating fun reels, education posts, and fantastic before and after’s. Together, we are building an educational platform for other estheticians to access from all over the world! It’s a mentorship program with subscriptions and content that takes a beginner esthetician, and propels them into their dream clientele, salary and result’s within a year! School teaches you the basics, and besides continuing education and certifications, nothing out there mentors you throughout each season of your business. This is where we come in.

We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
There is no reward without risk. Let’s say I’ve had a great reward 🙂
