Today we’d like to introduce you to Nilda Aviles.
Hi Nilda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nilda. I am a huge Star Wars collector and I traveling back and fourth in Orlando and all cities in Florida attending conventions meeting all Star Wars celebrities collecting autographs and collecting action figures. I got started as a kid, than took a break as a teenager, but than in my 20s collecting Star Wars memorabilia become a huge hobby of mine . I collect from statues to vintage toys where I review on my Instagram page and YouTube channel: I also love traveling all of the USA and checking out collectible stores and reliving my childhood. Mental health is a big thing , and losing my grandparents during Covid, and being able to collect things that I loved as a child really helped with my daily struggles.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. A lot of collectors and resellers started to pop up and a lot of toys that were accessible were now very hard to find. I primarily like to check out garage sales estate sales small mom and Pop shops to support the community and just try to find toys to add to my collection. Once Covid happened everything went completely up in sales and Toys that you were able to acquire as the price value went completely up and it was just hard to get something that you truly treasured. One thing I like to do is trading with people I know the website Mercari, a friendly collectors page where you are able to barter with the seller in order to purchase certain items that you truly would want.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I am a medical assistant for an Orthopedic group. I love helping people. We live in a world where there’s a lot of hate and I feel as a medical assistant I’m able to show some sort of humanity in my work. I am also a host for a Youtube channel called Appetite For Collectibles, where i travel all around filming conventions and interviewing STAR WARS celebrities. Im so proud of this channel i created because i get to learn things about star wars i never though i would.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to make interviewing celebrities a full time dream job. So far I have alot of opportunities with a few brands I have worked with. Also have upcoming interviews in the horizon. I will be hosting a celebrity panel at a convention coming up in August in Frisco Texas. I do have a lot of Star Wars celebrities in line for interviews for my YouTube channel.
